DIY door cards - need new hardware
DIY door cards - need new hardware
Anyone ever made new front door cards?
Mine are a little funky from water leakage and I want to make some new front ones.
If anyone has a pdf or other template that would be awesome, but I figure I can manage making my own.
I've got a couple questions though:
1) Any recommendations on the material to use?
2) I need a few clips that hold the card onto the door, anyone have any extra they'd part with for a couple bucks?
3) Anyone have door hardware (ie window cranks, handles etc) they'd be willing to sell? I'd like to change them over to nicer OEM or something else.
Thanks!
email me if you can help me out

I was just thinking yesterday about replacing mine. I had them off to rustproof the door cavity, reglue the vinyl to the card backing, replace clips, etc. You can get replacement plastic trim clips at Advance Auto (or Auto Zone, etc.). Get a removal tool while you're there; it makes removing the card easier and without breaking the clips. As fas as material to replace the backing with, I had not decided yet but I suspect 1/4" masonite would be ideal. It flexible enough and relatively water resistant. When I redo mine, I probably will undercoat/prime whatever I put in there. You can get new hardware (pulls, cranks, handles) in several styles at MiniMania.
I just got a set of used doorcards from Seven Enterprises (www.7ent.com) for $35. They didn't come with the clips though.
you need vinyl from your local home center and cloth or vinyl from your local upholstery supplier.....these materials will make you some water proof cards, but they not fancy....if you need something nicer, i know a guy who will make them for ya.
Inside door panels
I had a TR4 with warped cardboard-type inner panels. Using old one as a form, I cut new ones from the thinnest Lexan I could get (Maybe 1/8") and the fix was permanent. Lexan doesn't break as easily as plexiglas when drilling. Then use contact cement to glue on the vinyl or leather trim.
Man, that was a long time ago.
I found a set of cards from a local club member and had them recovered

Hi..the coor cards are made from 3mm hardboard and to stop them from getting water damaged again glue some plastic membrane to the face of card that fits to door this will prolong there life............also make sure that all door appartures are closed off with duck(tank)tape.............
