WANTED: Classic Mini Cooper in Los Angeles Area
WANTED: Classic Mini Cooper in Los Angeles Area
Hey guys,
I'm 16 and recently got my license. I have been saving up and I almost have enough for a classic Mini Cooper. My older brother has a 2003 Mini Cooper S and I love it, and his friend has a 69 cooper and I LOVE it. I can't stand any of today's cars/suv's, they just have too many useless features, they're too heavy, nothing is really stylish, drive sluggishly, and I'm sick of boring automatics.
I am only looking for a Mini Cooper with a decent body/paint, no rust, and it's got to run. I just want something that can use a little restoration, nothing crazy. It's going to be a daily driver and I'll go to the track around once a month or so with my brother. I am preferably looking for a white color, only color I won't accept is green. I personally think it's hideous. If you have a left hand drive that will be GREAT! My budget is around 1k-4k. It sounds low, but someone I know got a kickass left hand drive 69 Cooper for 800 bucks that ran perfectly with no rust, and a very straight body.
I have one more question for you right hand drive cooper owners. How long did it take to adjust shifting with your left hand? Eventually were you able to shift just as well with your right? (if you were in a left hand drive car of course) I know stickshift right now and I can heel and toe/double clutch my brothers 2003 Mini through all gears perfectly, but I tried shifting with my left in the passenger seat and it was HARD. I felt really stupid cause it took me like 2-3 seconds to shift gears. :P
Thanks in advance,
-Armand

Good luck, I just bought one (February) looking for about the same requirements, and they seem to run from 10k to 15k. I thought I got a deal at 8k. Look on ebay, but be very cautious 1/2 the cars I looked at back in Jan/ Feb were scams.
Keep us posted on what you find.
