new here

I'm new on the site, and i'm looking into buying a 1960s-1970s mini. We (my wife and i) found a place in SC that sells mini's that have come over from New zeland and have for the most part been restored, i think. I wanted to know what i should look for in a classic? are there any models or years i should steer clear of. any helpfull info would be great! we currently own a 1974 VW Thing, and have owned a 1974 VW semi-atomatic bug. We are really wanting to get a mini now.
thanks

Hello and welcome.

A huge wealth of info can be found at www.minimania.com They now have an illustrated pictorial as to all the different models. Just a brief warning, there is a TON of info on that site to the point where you may waste HOURS. Use the search function in the "community forums" section for specific answers to your questions.

Roscoe,

Welcome...Dr. Dave is correct, you'll want to spend some hours reading threads at MINI Mania. I am in the same boat as you and posted this thread a few days ago...http://www.minimania.com/web/threadi.../msgthread.cfm

I would suggest reading this article http://www.minimania.com/web/SCatago...8/ArticleV.cfm

Last I would try to pick up the latest MC2 (mini Magazine) there is a good read in there about buying classics. http://www.mc2magazine.com/

Good luck!

www.westpaminis.com

www.djminis.com

Are two dealers (DJ's also being a parts supplier) that I can highly recommend. If the dealer in SC is Turky's, I have not heard anything bad there but prices are a little higher. There are one or two dealers in GA also.

Also watch the sale ads at www.minicityltd.com

btw - I don't think Turky's does anything to the cars besides get them into the US. I presume you've seen the website
http://www.turkys.com/mini.html

Some of his cars are....shall we say....better than others...

Be interested in what you think if you go down for a looksee....
