Need help!

Noob here,

I just purchased a 1983 Austin MINI Mayfair (British) for 750 pounds sterling. Roughly converted its $1,450. The body and engine are in good condition, but I have surface rust that needs tending.

I need to upgrade the engine and redo the doors. Trying to buy parts is like reading a secret MINI code. What does the terms MK1 - MK3 mean? Is this body style, and if so which style is my MINI? Now, I'm guessing the Stage 1 - 2 in a engine upgrade for speed.

Any help would be appreciated.
