REDLINE varied because of things like the timing chain ( simplex w/ tensioners means lower redline than duplex ), and valve springs (single or double) and what cam is lifting them.

The fact that it is tuned at JCW means that there may be components that the factory motors didn't get - and it may even be balanced, which will help with longevity and may give you more rev's to play with ...

... but the biggest factor is that it is a 1098; the longest stroke (relatively, proportionally) of all the A series blocks means that you shouldn't crank it up too far - i'd limit it to about 5500 or 6000.

I would say 6 grand tops! Especially if you don't know what's inside this motor. 22 yrs. ago I built an 1100cc for my mini. Did not spare any expense, tufftrided the crank, shot peened the rods lightened everything including the flywheel and balanced it and it was safe for the occasional slip to 8 grand but certainly not on a daily basis. Best to stay safe with this one.

The 1100 is a long stroke and relatively low reving engine compared to most other A-Series units. It is actually one of my favorite engines due to the gobs of torque on tap. Although it may be OK to rev a little higher, I wouldn't push it beyond 5,000.

Why the concern? Is it reving super high at freeway speeds? Was the engine taken out of an MG1100? If so - and the Mini is running 10" tires instead of the 12" (MG size) - you might want to consider changing the final drive or contacting Mini City to see if they have the Jack Knight "overdrive kit."
