Engine and trans oil

Is it necessary to use 20-50 wt oil in classic or can a lower viscosity oil be used? Would lower wt oil make trans hard to shift and grind when putting in gear?

I ran 10-40 for a while in the winter, but the car prefers 20W50. The more important thing is to find oil with the right quantity of zinc in it to protect the camshaft.

I buy Brad Penn oil from my local oil distributor, I pay about $6.50 qt in a case of 12, that gives me two oil changes and 2 spare bottles.

the classic mini Aseries and A+ engine is designed to only use 20/50w oil because of the engine and gearbox share the same oil thinner oils will only cause faster ware in mains and bigend and oil pump

Like I said, when I ran it it was COLD out - as in 20-30 degrees F (-6 to 0 C), when it warmed up I changed over to 20W50 and ran that from then on.

you can by "regular" oil and get a zinc additive

I use this
