I'm getting started on my mini soon. One area of rust to repair is the boot. The current one is full of bondo and twisted. I have a 63 Austin mini. My question is about compatibility.
Since the mk1 is so pricy new will a newer model fit. Mk2 or 3. Someone near me is contiplating parting a mk3.
Or should I just order a new mk2. And did Austin vs Morris parts differ?

Is there a difference in parts from Morris to Austin as far as classic minis go? That's a fiat place out of Georgia that seems to have Morris mini parts. Not a bad price either. I could always take the bent up skin on my current door and section the mk1 specific parts on.

In my 11 year Mini experience, NO except for trim bits ..... different grills of course and the badges, but beyond that I've NEVER seen a Morris vs Austin difference. Different interior trim ... cloth ... but body panels are the same.

To wit, IME looking for a boot lid, the site never asked if it was an Austin or a Morris ....

DISCLAIMER .... my car is a 79 with a bunch of early bits ... so I'm just telling what I have experienced in my many many searches

The early boot's were designed so you could drive with the boot OPEN .....

remember this was intended to be a family car. The design allowed for overloading the boot

it was OK to load the boot too full to close the lid

an over stuffed boot would be OK cuz the way the 'tag' hung, it would be readable (even lit) ...... The tag light is at the BOTTOM and the tag fixture swings from the top . . .

When they changed the boot lid ... they dropped this feature (maybe cuz of all the CO running back into the car?)
