Peter Sellers' Radford Riley Elf unearthed?
"A barn-find specialist has unearthed a Radford Mini variant believed to have belonged to comic legend Peter Sellers.
The car had been stored for 25 years and is being sold by Chris Pearson of barnfindclassics.co.uk. He said: 'Two previous owners have had verification that this car belonged to Peter Sellers, though we have yet to find any pictures of him with it.'
Sellers ordered a luxuriously appointed Mini from Hoopers, most noticeable for its hand-painted wicker effect paintwork. At £2600, it cost four times as much as a standard Mini. He then had a copy made by Harold Radford for the Pink Panther film A Shot in the Dark. This inspired Radford to offer a succession of bespoke Minis, which were sold to a wide range of pop music and film celebrities.
Chirs's car, believed to have been originally painted grey, has the Radford interior treatment as a well as electric windows and a Webast sunroof. The vendor said its Les Leston steering wheel was stolen years ago, along with the bonnet, while the car was in storage.
Richard Williams, who has run Aston Martin specialist Richard Stewart Williams since 1968, looked after Peter Sellers' fleet. He said: 'This could well have been owned by Peter - but he had so many cars.' However, Barn Find Classics is investigating the car's history, and is inviting offers in the region of £6,000."
