importing question

Hello - I am a new member here. I am thinking of importing a classic mini (over 25 years old) from the UK. I am having a hard time finding an answer to the following question, and was hoping to get some advice.

The car I want has been modified with a roll cage, along with some engine mods to increase displacement, a performance cam, better exhaust, etc. but the engine block is the original one. Do these modifications to the engine disqualify the car for EPA's Clean Air Act exemption, which applies to cars 21+ years or old in their "original unmodified configuration"? I have found little guidance on what this phrase means!

Has anyone had luck bringing in a mini with engine mods? Thanks very much for any assistance.

had no impact on mine and I had a different/larger engine, with mods, exhaust, roll cage, different seats and steering wheel and no bumpers . . .

as far as the Federal is concerned once you check block one of the form all they worry about is duty and bugs . . .

but my experience WAS 10 years ago

Great. Thanks. It is good to know it is possible. It seems like EPA has left itself a lot of discretion given the ambiguous wording of the regulation.

Found an all original 1988 Mayfair. Here she is at the docks in Liverpool waiting for shipment to the US. Hope all goes well with importing. The car needs a lot of work, but that is part of the fun. I have a lot to learn!

Thanks! I can't wait to get her home. She has some rust issues, which are not apparent in the pictures, and generally needs a good going over.
