So here we go a second mini....
So here we go a second mini....
Back in 2010 i bought my second car ever which was a 2003 mini cooper s in indie blue with white stripes. I loved the car with all my heart. In my mind since i was turned on to minis i have always wanted a classic but did not deem it to be a commuter. So i had the r53 for about a year and a half, then one terrible night i hit black ice and totaled the car. I considered another bmw mini but couldnt bring myself to get another.
I went and got myself a foxbody mustang.... this was and still is fun for a daily driver considering i dont have to go far at all and i dont really mind beating on the car and hooning around a little. These are things i never tried in the mini, worst thing i did in the mini was do some curves on the north shore....
I began saving for a classic mini once i got my mustang in order. I got around 2g saved up (thats making a lot of bagels and cooking a lot of steaks.....) and gave up on my search a while back when all i could find were restored minis in perfect condition and were wayyyy over priced. I was looking for a diamond in the rough, something i could put work into, make it my own, build it up myself. Today i found a 1985 1000cc austin mini rhd 4spd in silver on craigslist no more than 15 minutes from my house. From the pictures it looks rough, just the way i wanted it. The paint is faded, but its there. The ad says it needs a clutch, and from the pictures it doesnt look like a rotted mess. The floors are good i have to check the seems and everything to make sure it is all solid. I downloaded the buyers checklist and plan to use it. The seller wants 4k... thats 4k i do not have but i need this car it is a calling. i have about 3k right now that i can afford to throw at a project. Is this too low and insulting for the seller? I am looking at the car on wednesday and plan to take a lot of pictures. The seller is going on a 2 week vacation starting thursday so i have to weeks to make a decision. I will post pics when i get them.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Offer the $3K to see if he'll take it. Nothing lost if he doesn't.
I have a '12 Countryman and enjoy it so much I found a '65 to drive around a few times a week. It is great and you will enjoy the smaller Mini. Just be prepared to be asked a lot of questions wherever you go.
Good Luck!

Yea im going to just offer it up and see where it goes from there. There is a kid around my town who just recently built one up so i can get assistance from him if needed.
Cant wait to start going to mini meets again. The cheese run was one of the best car meets i have ever attended.
