Hey guys I have Minilite style wheels! I love my car but not when I turn corners, it grinds. The wheels are too wide for me. If you had some wider wheel arches it would look perfect. They look great and handle awesome, just not my style. Wheels are in perfect condition, tires are have no more than 3000 miles. WTT for minilites that are not as aggressive. Such as 12x6 12x 5 13x6

I'm not interested in trading, but I do have some info for you ...

The term "minilites" is thrown around a lot in the classic Mini world. There are genuine "Minilite" wheels, and there's minilite-style wheels (Minilife, Minilight, Minitor). The genuine Minilite wheels have "MINILITE", "ENGLAND", and "10xX" in the castings. I would make sure that you indicate you have "Minilite-style" wheels so you don't get into problems selling something that isn't as advertised. Although I can't read the embossing on those pictures, I really don't think those are genuine Minilite wheels that are on your car.

On to more interesting stuff ... I had 12x6 wheel/tire combos on my '73 with the MiniCity-style flares (I think the same as you have). The tires didn't rub while driving straight or turning but both fronts and rears rubbed pretty liberally when the suspension cycled (like pulling out of a driveway or going over a speed bump at an angle). The true solution to my problem was changing to 10x6 Minilite wheels with 165/10 tires. The circumference was about 4-1/2" smaller with the 10" tires making the rubbing problem a thing of the past. I now also have a set of 10" 100+ wheels with A008s and don't have rubbing with those either.

You don't say in your thread posting - are you looking at changing to another 13" wheel or are you dropping to 10" or 12" wheels? If you're dropping to 10" wheels you'll have to be very careful to make sure the front wheels will clear your front brake calipers. The later model classic Minis came with larger diameter (13") wheels to allow fitment of bigger brakes up front.

Just some info to think about. I hope it helps.

Still got 'em?

Still available? I live in Gaithersburg Maryland, and I've got a set of great condition 12x5 Minator alloys / Falken tires. Sent you a private message with contact details.

Cheers!

Zack
