Sometimes I wonder about myself

Yesterday I was replacing the header gasket. I didn't have a good spot light in the engine bay but after I installed the new gasket and saw that it wasn't laying flat when I was tightening the bolts. So...I tightened them harder. Then I noticed that there was a slight gap between the gasket and header on the second (from the right) outlet pipe. Tried to tighten the bolts a little more but stopped - I then noticed a thin little black cable between the engine block and the header.

Oh hey! It's the choke cable

I ended up crimping the metal casing of the cable on both ends of a 1-1/2 inch segment. The cable is completely stuck. I'm in the process of trying to "uncrimp" it but haven't had much luck.

You live and you learn.

about $20 plus shipping . . . example:

I found getting to the backing nut was a knuckle buster unless you want to pull the heater .... which I did NOT. Mine was frayed at the end.

Be careful you don't buy the 'later' one, it clips into the dash and won't work for you.

If you manage to unsquash the shield you are a magician

Three months later... and it is fixed! I managed to cut off the section that was crimped and put two layers of heat shrink sleeves over the cut out section to "fuse" the remaining sections together. Works good as new!
