There is a thread in the 1st Gen, Interior section.
Very well illistrated and write up.
Common problem for BMW & MINI's.

That's not gonna apply to a Mini

OP, as you've seen probably you can get complete headliner kits and it can be done. One thing to consider if your head liner looks crappy but is otherwise in good shape - paint it.

My headliner had been replaced not long b4 I bought my car and the job was so so. Application of heat during the process (why? I dunno, to stretch sections I'll guess) had discolored sections. So it looked bad but wasn't falling down & had no rips. I masked everything off inside and gave it a spray with SEM products. Used their cleaner then their saddle tan color. 4 years later I still think it looks great.... I don't think you can tell it was painted. (and I had to work around a full roll cage.)

SEM WORKS WELL on vinyl

If you can't find SEM locally you can get it from Eastwood.

Sorry for confusion.
Didn't realize that it was for Mini not MINI.

head liner

Hi there, I did spray a small section last year, but it stunk real bad the fumes were nasty. It looked pretty good, but to mask it all off sounds like a lot of work. But if it easier that installing a new one then maybe that is the way to go. This product that you call SEM what is it short for or is that the real name for it. I do not know if I can buy it in Canada or not. Hopefully that I can and then I will try it. Thanks for the advice.

is it a mk1-2 type head lining or mk3 onwards.............

mk1-2 is in 2 pieces on a frame, to remove this from car, first you will need prise the front section backwards about 3" then with a mate use a flat blade (scraper or lge flat screwdriver) and pop the edge in the middle away from the roof edge same other side then pull down and out same for the back.........if mk3 you will need ro remove front and rear screens and door and rear 1/4 rubber seals, then peel the liner away as this is stuck down and slide your arm up into roof and pop out leg ends from side locating holes (remember the colour sequince)............

That is a good idea about spraying the headliner. My headliner has no rips but just looks discolored from where the previous owner may have smoked. I didnt want to spend the money for another headliner since there were no rips. I am going to try your idea.
