Mechanic needed for MPI Mini
Mechanic needed for MPI Mini
I have a customer who is looking for a good mechanic for his MPI. He thinks it was made during the last year of production. Has also tried taking it to several tire places for alignment but it is too small for the equipment. Any suggestions?

a point to note
unless the suspension has been modified there is only one adjustment is provided for in the basic classic's suspension: front toe. That can actually be checked with the most primitave of gear and adjusted at home .. procedure is in Haynes.
Any other adjustment requires changing suspension components and/or adding shims; or tracing the actual problem to a bad bearing.
If searching for a shop capable of working on a Mini, you might look for the local MG and Triumph clubs, who tend to have a greater following, and probably know of a shop or two used to working on these English beasts.
A quick Google check found

too small for the equipment? Call the Smart Car dealer
of course no one's equipment - all computer today - has the right numbers for a Mini in all probability. Would you like the stock numbers? I have Haynes and Mini service manuals.
I HAVE had trouble with 10" wheels being too small for balancing equipment. Modern automotive gear doesn't go that small in the computer. I have to drive a ways to a guy who has an older machine that still registers 10" rims altho I've been considering trying trailer dealers . . .
