Track worthy Mini upgrades?

Track worthy Mini upgrades?
I know there are some of you in the know...
So what's it take/cost to take a stock 1275 Mini to make it track worthy? Not the kind of Mini that is going to beat out a $100K car but give it some juice and add some go fast parts?
Currently have a 1990 Mini with 1275, disc brakes, etc but is fairly stock. Parts and cost? Not looking to spend a small fortune but make it quicker AND safer.
