I've posted details of our build for the 24Hr of LeMons race on another forum and realized there's probably folks on this board who haven't seen it and who may be interested in our exploits to build a race mini on a $500 budget. We have a build diary of sorts going on at a freebee website:

It's quite an undertaking, but with team work I think we'll get 'er done... but likely just in time.

Anyone is welcome to come help or oogle if you're in the San Diego area. The Race is August 15th and 16th at Buttonwillow (can you say HOT) and spectator tickets are available. AFAIK, no classic mini has ever braved the event before.

Good luck! I know somebody entering LeMons this year, and just might make the trek out into Hades to check out the action. If the Mini can get good fuel mileage you could have a shot, but if they weld a steel pig to your roof you'll probably flip over in the first turn!

 

A pig?! We're already going to have a full recliner on the roof!

 

Just updated the build site with information about our Week 4 Progress! There's a photo package of the Week 4 build and each photo has a caption explaining the build progress (or regress) this week.
Highlights include the receipt of a Halon bottle from you-know-who (THANKS!), a set of belts, and a set of new 998 STD rings! Oh, and a small belly fire (doh) compliments of a cutting wheel and a greasy shirt.
