f/s scam...

one of our local club forum members found a Craigslist ad for a stupid cheap Mini... '75 Mini for $4000... yeah right... 99.999% sure it's a scam... but a couple of us e-mailed the guy anyway for kicks...

He has a photo gallery of the car: ttp://www.pixagogo.com/0861134172 (obviously NOT a '75 car...)

Look familiar to anyone? (serious question)

We're trying to figure out ways to string him along some more...

Same car was on craigslist in Ohio about two / three months back , I emailed several times and never got a reply , then the ad was removed ...

A couple of us have gotten replies... but none have been particularily clear towards answering any specific questions, which makes me believe it's all automated somehow... drat... we were hoping to have some fun with it...

Tell him you want to meet to inspect the car and see what he/she says. Should be fun to see how he tries dodging the meeting if it's a fake. $4k for that car is totally unrealistic...

That's a shame, sure is a pretty car. I wonder how many people have fallen for this.

When I was looking for my car, I would check Craigslist everyday. One day there was an add for a JCW Cabrio which this gal was asking $33,000. I spoke to her on the phone about it, but never went to look at it because it had high miles. Anyway, the next day the same add with pics was on Craigslist again, but this time at $10,000 with a different phone number. The add was on there for about 3 hours and then it was gone.

that's a sweet looking Mini. Too bad it isn't that cheap though. I was able to get my Mini for 5,000 but I think that's because the previous owner didn't know what it was worth...

Well, clearly it's an MPI motor so it can't be a '75. It has to be a '96-'00. I've got a '98 that looks similar, but it's a Mini Classic and not a Cooper. I'm in love w/ our car, but since it's only 10 years old, I can't take it back stateside - at least legally.

Ciao,

Jeff

A friend of mine got hit for almost $3K on a similar deal on a Toyota MR2, and he's no Kid either - the seller said he was in the army and going to Iraq, hence the low price.........so be careful out there!

Red Flag Clues include too low a price like this, and if/when they do answer an email, they will never offer an opportunity to see the car, even if you tell them you're in the same town and have cash. They will want you to send the money to a (phony) escrow acct to hold while they ship the car to you, then offer you 5 days to inspect the car before the money and title change hands. it's all fake.

scams just plain suck. NEVER buy a car without seeing it. its just plain stupid. I cant believe the cost of a mini in the us... all of them in malta are under 150 pounds (maltese) which is like 600 dollars here. I love being from that country. might send back 2 or three this summer

Some of them list extremely low prices to get your email address ...
there was an 07 goldwing listed for $4000 , I figured it had to be a scam , so I signed up for a hotmail account , only used it to reply to that add , next day I had 300+ spam emails ... coincidence ???

Hmm... didn't think of that... good point...

Asking to see the car was the first thing I asked for... which of course was skirted...

ASK him/her what's the least he'll take for the "car"?
It's funny when they reply asking which car you are referring to.

I got my Mini for $4600 without seeing it, but it was from another NAM member, so I was little happier about it.
