Updated Classic

He now has a name (Bosley) and a new look. We didn't redo the interior, but there are lots of upgrades on the way: silver bonnet stripes, a new chrome grill, black wheel fender flares, a chrome license plate illuminator, new headlights that hopefully actually light up the nighttime road(!), a passenger side review mirror, and a new, more grip-able steering wheel. New wheels/tires may be in the works for the future. After that, we'll probably consider redoing the upholstery and getting new seats. Whew, talk about a money pit

Here he was before:

And here he is now:

Oh, before anyone asks, he fits perfectly under the carport in front of the new MINIs.

Sweet. I'd keep those wheels, they fit well. Personally I'd have kept the white, but your painters did an excellent job.

why would you need a fog lamp in the back?

for foggy days
it's really bright and may save you from being rear ended.

1. isnt it illegal to have lights pointing at drivers in this manner?

2. Why drive in the fog with a mini? just as bad as rain...

The rear fogs are "red" just like your brake lamps and it shouldn't be an issue. This is quite standard on euro built cars they have one rear fog light located on the driver side. Most are integrated in the rear lamp assemblies (ex. mercedes, bmw's). We also have this as on option on new MINIs.

btw, this is also legal in the US as the lamp intensity is within allowable range of a brake lamp.

I think US -spec Volvos have had rear fog lamps for years. It seems like they were supplied when the front fogs were ordered at the factory.

Common on many if not most European cars.........

Is that the one you bought in KC?

Looks nice, what color will you do the interior? That brown has to go!

ahhh... wasnt sure. usually fog lights are to bright to be used in the back, them being in brake light range makes sense.

Just curious, did they spray the door jambs, or bottom side of the boot and bonnet? Looks like a nice paint job. I'm still partial to the original color, but I think once you get going on the interior, and wheels, it'll all pull together.

Looks pretty good. Did they find any rust when they sanded it down?

Thanks for all the kind words. For an account of what happened yesterday in this car that was just painted, read here:

MINIdave, this is the one I bought in KC. I'm liking this color much better than the off white/beige. Not sure about the interior yet... probably going to go with black seats and carpet. I think that'll match much better than the brown. It'll be a while though. The painted and various upgrades have pretty well ran be dry for a bit.

MINIxB, they didn't sand it down all the way since the paint was in such good shape, but they did take care of all the rusting places they found.
