I recently purchased a mini manual on cd-rom "Minis 1969 to 1985" by Heritage motor centre only to find out that it is not compatible with windows VISTA . Here is a link to more info on it:

It sells new for fifty bucks. I would be willing to part with it for less than that or to trade it for anything you might have laying around that you think someone new to classic minis might want/need/like to have.

The only thing I can think of that I do want right now is an aston style fuel cap so if anyone has one that the dont want I would be willing to put some cash with the cd for it.

run it in XP compatability mode. rt. click and play with the properties. you're looking for something to say classic or XP compatability.

I tried all that already, does not work with vista period, has something to do with the type of security on the disk. Check this out:

I know a guy who knows a guy that has a cousin that has a boyfriend who can hack most anything and he says it can't be done.

 

That thread claims that an update to the manual will be available soon that will fix the Vista security issue. Me - I;ll stick with my Haynes Book of Lies - I don't have a PC in the garage.

 

Downloaded several "fixes" from vista already, none helped. have 2 different haynes manuals and a few others as well. This one just isnt worth the hassle to me.

 

I'd always run my disk on one of my XP boxes and sure 'nuf I can't get the files to open under VISTA even when by-passing the funky flash front end (by a UK author!) that seems to be the source of the incompatability. I tried to find an update for that online and can only find it from the source company at $$$

For techno-geeks: curiously I can open the files directly from the CD using ADOBE (they are buried in a folder and are simple ADOBE 6.1 files) using an XP machine but, I can't do that on the VISTA machine either. I can find the files but the won't open from ADOBE...it says it can't recognize the file as a valid ADOBE. I run ADOBE 7 on my XP but have 8.something on the VISTA which could also be a factor, but I doubt it.

If you go to Heritage' own website you see that none of their CD's will run on VISTA and "an update is coming soon" - I'm gonna e-mail 'em and see what that means.
