Mine has an area at the front to mount plates, though the holes don't line up with the holes in the plate. I bought one of those universal plate bracket things from Walmart (about $5) and mounted that to the car, then the plate to it.
For the rear plate, I drew up a plan for a bracket that would use the existing 2 holes in the boot lid and come out from the lid with a bigger area with holes to mount a US plate to. I took the plan to a local VOTECH high school who are making it for me. It's supposed to cost me just the cost of the metal. If you want, and your car also has the 2 holes in the boot lid, I can fax you a copy of the plan, or scan and email it.
Well the cop that inspected my car said I could just put it in the back window...
Does your state have an antique car plate? If so, then they recognize the importance of the originality of an antique vehicle. Here is what I was taught by other classic car owners in Texas. Use rubber sucken cups on all four corners of your state issued plate and place inside the back window. If you drive the Mini after dark you’ll need to make sure to put a LED between the glass and the plate. Most states only require that it be illuminated. An LED light is illumination by-law, rather it lights the whole plate or not.
Remember peace officers interpret the Law while lawyer know the law.
Yes, that's they type of tag I'm going to get. I think I'm going to do what Demon did so that the plate will be illumintaed and just keep the front plate in the car with me.
Those $5 universal plate brackets work great for the front - I ran my US plate on one for months, then later replaced it with a customized Euro-plate (which matches my US plate).
Just drill holes in the US plate to match the mounting holes already in place for the euro plates. It took me almost 5 minutes to drill and mount my plates.

Erm...I can't do that for my rear plates. The 2 holes in the boot lid are further apart than the width of a US plate.
Here is a scan of the design I'm having made for my rear plate.
