Anyone know how long it takes for license plates to get registered in IL ?
Question for you Illinois people. If you got new license plates for your new car, how long did it take before it got registered?
I picked up my car May14, and the dealer had plates for my car, but they still had to be registered to my car. They charged me the electronic fee too so I thought it should be pretty quick. I'm trying to get a vanity plate and the current plate has to be registered to my car first. But every single day the website gives me the same message about the current plates are still in process and try again in 10days.

license plate delay
Don't know about Illinois.
Here in San Diego I was charged for electronic submission of the registration. Then the paperwork sat on somebody's desk at the dealer for five weeks before the 2-minute computer exercise. After that it took another week before they got around to mailing me the results.

And I go check the license plate website this afternoon, and yep, its now registered and I finally got to order new vanity plates.
Kinda not happy about being charged for the e-submission fee now cause it could just got mailed in for cheaper and probably woulda taken less time if they didn't let it just sit.
Plates for the MINI
Well.... I've been through this experience before... ITS A BLAST!!!
It takes 7 months from the point you get your real plates from the dealer for the DMV to allow you to change on the internet. go to pick-a-plate.com and print out the picture of the plate you want and take it to the DMV with your original plate. They can settle it there. Trust me, 2 cars, a truck, and a trailer.... been through it all.

I don't know if it's any different for leased vehicles, but in NJ, I picked up my plates a week to the day after I got the car. I kinda wish it had taken longer to get the plates in because I liked driving around with the temp tag on showing off my new car
I just re-applied for my front plate -- only cost $26 -- But it's the cheapest way not having to run the front plate in IL.... Damn them!! I'll get the plate in late September. About the same time the car gets put in storage. 8 Front license plates and no tickets... The inmates making my plates must love me!!
