Wow! That's a great looking Mini. Love the stripes....

It looks like the plate really sticks out, esp on the left side. You worried about it catching on things, or am I just imagining it?

Thanks

Got nailed for no plate (and window tint) in Schaumburg last month. Now I have a no-holes plate on my car, at least until August when I am moving to Boston :-). Then the front plate comes off and the window tint goes back on!

I believe that Mass has front plate laws too.....heck even up here in the land of helmet-optional motorcycle riding we have front plate laws.

.....so don't be ditching that no-holes anytime soon.....

No front plate for me either, but I carry it with me just in case in the cubby in the boot. I hope that I never have to pay any fines, but I'm not drilling any holes - EVER!

Thanks to all those vendors who provide a no-holes option.

One thing to keep in mind, it is not just a traffic violation, but a parking violation as well. I never got pulled over in the 4 years I had my old Mini, but I did rack up-close to a thousand dollars of parking tickets left for me when i returned to my car.

On my new 07, I did decide to put the plate on the front.

State cops and the small town guys in IL will make an issue of it. I'm just north of you in Kenosha, our state cops would wright you for it, but the chances of getting nailed here would be slim.
First hand knowledge.

My MCS is 1 1/2 years old. There's never been a front plate - I HATE them. I never had a problem until today. Some "officer friendly" just wrote me a no front plate ticket while my MCS sat in a commuter parking lot - parked for the day! I guess since I'd paid the meter, things got desperate.

What JERKS.

I drove my 2003 SRT4 for 5 years without any front plate in burbs and city and was never bothered. I was pulled over for forgeting to put a sticker on and the did not even mention front plate.

I am going to ask the dealership not to put it on or drill any holes when me mini gets here in 2 weeks.

I had a BMW registered in PA (no front plate required) and got pulled over more than once in my town. Finally had to tell the Chief to educate his officer's that PA didn't require a front plate. I was able to keep my PA plates because I was active duty military.
Wish IL had an option for the front plate....I see no need for one. I would love to put a Euro plate on.

Coming up on 3.5 years now and one parking ticket in Oak Park. Never a stop or any other hassle. It's been worth the $35 or so that the ticket cost me. (so far).

It very much depends on the municipality that you spend the most time in.

Well since my vanity plates FINALLY came in (took Illinois over 3 months from the time to order), I went ahead and did a front mount via the tow-hook method. I wouldn't have mounted one if I hadn't ordered the vanity plate.

Cheers!

No front plate on mine (bought it used with no holes in the front bumper in Wisconsin)

As an option to the stock mount location on my wife's car I moved it to the lower Japan mounting holes. I used a short piece of pvc slotted to fit the cross reinforcing on the back of the mount and just long enough to touch the mesh to keep the wind from stressing it.

The lower position looks better than stock in my opinion.

Stock height:

Remove the entire assembly to clean and wax behind it.

The kit is designed so that you can remove the entireplate with a 19mm or 3/4" wrench. Since you have the plate all lined up just break it loose with the wrench and spin the entire assembly off. Just make sure you do it slow at first and ensure you do not hit the body of the car with screws.

My husband trimmed the lower left hand corner of our plates and attached the front plate to the left part of the lower grill w/cable ties :D Works for me no drilling!

I have an 02 MCS bought new that has never had a front plate mounted, and my 08 Clubman does not have one. I've never been stopped or ticketed. I carry the palte under the passenger side floor mat just in case.
Based on all I've read it seems that certain towns are more prone to enforcing this and O'Hare is a place where you will get caught. Another reason to park off site at O'Hare!

18 months of Chicago area driving, and one ticket for no front plate - given while my Mini was parked in a commuter train parking lot!

3 1/2 years in an M3 with no front plate. No problems or hassles whatsoever. My new JCW will go plateless in the front.

You must live in a crime free area, since they have all day to eat donuts and hit parking lots looking for cars without front plates. Lucky You sleeping at night with the doors wide open too.

I got into a fender bender about a month back and the plate mount knocked off, so I place the front plate in my windshield for the time being. I got 4 tickets for no front plate in the city this past week, I hate those Department of Revenue scumbags!!! I even flagged one of them down as they were writing the ticket and told him my plate mount broke off in the accident and I'm just waiting on final body shop quotes. He still wouldn't beleive me after pointing out the banged up hood and bumper. $#^%$@ SCUMBAGS!!! Not to mention I'm still waiting on my tags from IL Secratary of State, so i get hit up for expired tags as well. Now I have 8 tickets from Chicago Revenue that I need to contest!
