Hello from Lake Tahoe, attended the last two AMVIV's. Am helping organize a new club in No. Nevada and the Sierra's and plan on bringing some new Mini owners to this event. We in No. Nevada are really pumped about meeting our Mini community. Glenn

Hey Glenn. Looking forward to seeing you again. Someone contacted the club recently about getting a Reno area club going. Did you get involved in that?

Anyway, I promised something you could print and distribute, so here it it. Click on the image to get a bigger version, suitable for printing.

I am planning on coming down for the AMVIVIII from Bend, OR. Anyone have any recommendations for the route down I take? Not necessarily looking for the quickest or twistiest, just a nice drive down. I do not want to come down I5. Would prefer coming thru Reno or even Winnemucca.

Thanks,

Scott

Come thru Winnemucca, Mack.

Johnny Cash did.

Or come thru SLC and meet the MINI5280 contingent (caravan) on the way from Denver, KC, StL and beyond. We will plan to meet SLC MINIs too and we will be there about mid AM on Friday, at the I-70 I-15 junction. Eta LV at about 1 pm.

Scott,

Look at coming down 395 for most of the route, its on the east side of the sierras, drop down thru Reno, then south to Bishop, then a short (~25 mi) very windy section to connect over to Nevada 95, and then a straight shot to vegas. Welcome to join me for the last stint, as is anyone else (hint to anyone from the Reno/ Tahoe area)

Anyone driving from NY/NJ?
I was thinking of doing a cross country trip from NY to SF, stopping in Vegas for your meet.
If anyone is driving out, I would like to tag along.

I usually go down the Thursday before too. Its only 3.5 hours or so from here, but from bend I would think its close to 10 plus. I came from Redmond to bishop once with a horse trailer and it took 12 hours, but the trailer slowed us up some. I'm not sure of my exact plans yet, its still 130+ days off .

Go for it. Rather than 1 thread, maybe one for the Washington State/Oregon/NorCal area, another for the midwest, another for the East Coast...something like that?

But didn't it make you feel special?

Even though you were the only SG, I don't think I saw any genuine "twins". Almost every car at AMVIV this year had some kind of customization, even if it was only non-factory wheels. And that made it cooler. As a generalization, people who attend these kinds of events tend to be enthusiasts about their cars, and want to personalize them. Great to see!

I'll be there again this year, with a car! (crossing fingers) I'll also most likely be instructing at the Phil Wicks Driving School, I highly recommend doing it if you can (see write up: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=55148 ).
Can't wait to see everyone again, especially you AZ MINI's. Now, to Garden room or not to Garden room, that is the question .

The garden rooms are supposed to be MUCH upgraded from last year. I haven't seen one, but they are claimed to be very nice. On the other hand, the view from the tower rooms is fantastic. Also, there's a $30 per night difference. How much time are you going to spend in you room?

I didn't really have a problem with the Garden room. I have stayed there before and I have stayed in worse places before. The only thing that bugged me was putting the "do not disturb" sign on the door and having it COMPLETELY IGNORED!!!

Was there last year and it ROCKED, can't wait!

I am jazzed that you guys are doing a track day. GREAT idea. So, do you just show up on the day or do you need to sign up for track time/instruction?

And Jonathan S. THIS time I'll get ya through that canyon!!

Track day

Phil Wicks is doing the driving school at LVMS using the inside road course minus going on the oval track like some schools have done. Phil is also kicking off his North American Mini Cooper Championship Race Series the same day, more then likly on the outside road course. Phil will be handling all of the school sign-ups so stay posted to his website for further information. I will say this, first come, first served.

I'll jump in if you don't mind....

I noticed that on the AMVIV.com home page it says "Cars registered as of 9:00am 01/26/2006: 65"

And there are now 44 on my frappr map.

Thanks Angie. I was actually working this morning and only just managed to log on to NAM.
After requests from at least half a dozen people, I added an "as of registration count" to the AMVIV.com home page. I'll update it probably a couple of times a week (unlikely to be over weekends).

Sounds like a great idea. It wil be interesting to see the event grow as it gets closer.
