On Memorial Day weekend, I will be riding my bicycle in "Bike the Drive" on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive (LSD), http://www.bikethedrive.org/ . Basically, LSD is closed, during the day, from the Museum of Science and Industry to Hollwood Ave., the northern end of LSD. This equals appx. 15 miles. LSD is shut down totally with no vehicles in the north and southbound lanes.

Attachment 19810

So imagine....15 miles of Lake Shore Drive, 4 lanes wide, closed for our use, with proper permitting of course. Does a convoy require a single line of vehicles? Or can we take advantage of all 4 lanes? Just a thought.

So why not? Chicago is virtually reachable by all. Accommodations are plentiful all around. LSD can accommodate. There are infinite piture ops. There are so many other things that can be rolled in to the event, just like at MOTD.

Ohh... another thought...if we do a round trip, that would be almost 30 miles ,TEMPTING!!!

We just need to get organized or maybe get local MINI people (Knauz, Patrick, Jacobs, MINI Clubs, etc.) to buy in to the idea and use their resources for planing.
According to the rules this woud be called a parade of Minis and not a convoy, so it wouldn't beat that record. I'm getting in touch with The Guiness Record people on Tuesday to check on feasability, cost and rules (they are closed for Easter).

Mini UK organized the record in the UK ...... anyone from Mini US reading ????????

Hey guys! I think it's great that there's a lot of enthusiasm to organize an attempt to set a new record and bring that record state-side

I thought I'd mention that there's a group already planning an attempt soon. They already have plans in the works and will make their attempt on June 10th.

I think we should show our support for Uber Blu and his hard work in organizing the attempt and the cause they're supporting.

If they can set the record, then organizing an attempt next year would be a great idea. I think it would be a great idea regardless.

Thoughts???

Before getting to my point let me state that I have no authority over anyone and am not telling anyone what they can or cannot do but...

We need to lay off trying to plan to beat this record for now. The attempt that will be made on June 10th on the East Coast should not have to worry about competition at this point. Their's is a fundraiser with an excellent cause and I would not want to see it dimished by another group trying the same thing before June 10th.

Let them try and break the record. Whether they succeed or not we can make our attempt after.

Roadsailor, I was going to contact Guiness after MOTD but if you can get a hold of them sooner, great. It would be appreciated if you would share the details. Do me a favor though and ask them to give you the details on any and all MINI/Mini records that are out there.

I would like us to have a 'Guinness' record event at MOTD next year where we try and break multiple records (most MINIs in a row, most people stuffed in a MINI, etc). We could make all of the attempts charity driven or support the locals in the Fontana area (police, fire, etc).

Feel free to put me in my place but to me its just the right thing to do.

No Problem .... if there is one thing that a life in the services has taught me .... teamwork will ALLWAYS win out EVERY time. I'll co-ordinate my efforts with the East Coast attempt, oops I mean Success.

By the way, I'm an ex Brit

Trying to my man. Roadsailer, let me know if you are going to get that info and pass it along to me. If not then I'll make my own inquiry.

Thanks!

Hey Roadsailor,
Would you please differentiate between parade and convoy? Is it due to the actual closing of LSD for the event? Also, a convoy is considered a single line and more of a spontaneous event, right? Please correct?
Thank you.

A convoy is a single line of vehicles.

A parade CAN be multiple lines of vehicles.

The road closure is not a problem.

Passapodt is right,

A convoy is a single line of vehicles and a parade is more than one line.
