Brian,
I will see what I can do to answer your questions.
What time in St. Louis. If I remeber correctly we got there around 6PM last year and should make that or SOONER this year.
Reservations in Columbus I am sure is just for lodging. Most of the places we will be eating are casual as we will be in traveling clothes. No suits on this trip.
Communication on the road is by 2-way radios (with subchannel) frequency to be determined. And cell phone when you get really lost.
see you in St. Louis.

Second, I (we) have a few newb questions.
- About what time do you expect to arrive in St Louis and eat dinner? We will be joining from Tulsa and would like to meet up if possible.
- When the group arrives in Columbus, IN, you mentioned the need for reservations, is this for the restaurant?
- What is the communication method while on the road(2-way radios or ???)? Probably not a big deal but just curious with so many people joining in along the way and various possibilities with lodging as well.

At this point, we plan to motor with the group from St Louis to IN. On the way into KY we will split off to visit the Corvette Museum/Factory and then catch back up in Sevierville, TN.

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you all.

Jim is correct

  • 6 pm is the ETA in StLouis but it could easily be 7 pm. Allow time for cocktails. If someone is still coming, we will wait dinner.
  • Reservations in Columbus, IN are indeed for lodging. I just posted choices. Dinner reservations, if any, will be covered based on the size of the group
  • However you wish to join / stay with / join the group is fine. We will exchange cell #s and email addresses before the trip, but handheld as Jim says while we are all together.
  • And we will add a few little cool destinations before we leave, anyway
Thanks for joining us. If your pops is Intercoolest, are you not JrCooler or something. You need a cool handle....

Thanks,

Jonathan

BigFun is now added!

Yes, BigFun04 will be joining the Denver to Dragon III Caravan this year. Dan will join us (it looks like) on Monday AM on the Illinois side of StLouis, after a big hangover of Italian food from the night before.

See the early posts in this thread as we will be posting lodging information for Omaha and StLouis in the next day or two.

See you all there. Intercoolest (Colorado Springs) will be joining us for sure in St Louis, Sunday night, for dinner.

Monday route now includes the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum on the way to Brown County, IN (dinner) and Columbus, IN (overnight).

Mike, I meant to offer you

a Dragon License Plate the other night at Randy's. My bad, I forgot. I will still find a way to see you this month so you can have one for the drive out...

Sorry about that Rick. Blame it on Microsoft. Streets and trips gave me those #'s so I blame Bill Gates.

No problemo. I'm using Google Maps. I will post more details soon, including key towns along the way, so that navigation systems can be pre-programmed to take OUR route instead of the Interstate route that most seem to favor.

The caravan left Denver today

6 am MTN, arrived Markel MINI in Omaha 5:45 pm Central. All is well...Nebraska is flat and boring, but the backroads are, well, just that.

Not a single mile of Interstate today. 570 miles total, leg 1.

Tomorrow...Omaha to KC (Lunch at Bryant's) to StL (dinner on the Hill) with the StL MINIs....

Yesterday....

The D2DCARFT arrived in St. Louis via KC (and Bryant's BBQ) met Doug Travis and the StL MINI group for dinner Sunday at Gino's on the Hill. Great wine, great times - and great FroYo at Ted Drewes afterwards. Thanks to Doug and Donna for the host!!

Off to bed and more on Monday...

Day 4 update...

Today, totals 1936 miles in 4 days. The Corvette Museum in Bowling Green was nice, a bit small, but fun. Would do it again. Met some real sweet ladies in eastern KY who hosted us, then dinner at the Colonel Sanders Cafe. Not such a big deal but Americana nonetheless. Into Alcoa, TN ( S of Knoxville) by 10 pm...a bit late and tired.

Wednesday...sleep in,then on to Fontana and either a trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway or to Clemson S.C. to see the fighting Tigers.

Will post more later...

GP 1292 left Denver at 2pm yesterday. We made it to Columbia Missouri at 12:30am and crashed hard.

We will be leaving here in about an hour for the last half and plan to be at Fontana by dinner time !

Got pulled over outside of Limon by CSP....got a warning only! I asked the NICE officer how fast I was going; he smiled and said if I told you that I would have to give you a ticket! I said never mind....

Thank God for good Karma.

By the way; this was my first road trip with Valentine 1. Needless to say it save my @$$ more than once. As for the pull over in Limon I had only about 3 seconds warning but managed to dump some mph. It seemed many of the bogeys were popping their radar on and off. I learned if V1 get's a hit get off the gas!

I seem to have a weird noise from my dash when I reach (a certain mph that I can not post here but think more than a C note ). Sounds bad and like a bearing I need to talk to some motorheads at the Dragon about this one. I captured it on video (sound).

Otherwise this GP hugs the road and rides smooth as a baby's butt !!!!
