The ALTA AccessPORT saves a copy of the original map, so you can flash it back to the way it was before service.
Thanks again!
AP is Alright
Hi guys and gals. As my sig shows I'm a big supporter of Alta. I j got the AP a couple of weeks ago. You see the dealer was having a fit keeping my car from throwing a Cel saying my Cat was running inefficient. When I called Jeff to talk about the cat he first taught me how to diagnose the cat and then talked to me about the AP. At the time the dealer had removed my $1k+ custom DynoComp tune and returned my ecu to stock. To make a long post short. Jeff figured out that the dealer had not reflashed my ecu to stock as written on the invoice, but had instead updated my ecu to the latest greatest MINI software. Jeff didn't have anything ready for the 8-10 cars, but he quickly got me up and running with 3 tunes that started good and have been getting better and better. We still have some more tunes before everything is going to be all buttoned up, but it is getting really close and holy moley hang on to your britches. It's worth every penny. With the custom tune (I will post the dyne sheets if you like) I was getting 293 to the wheels and 303 in torque and 30+ mpg. But I think I got ripped off on the custom tune, I think it was a WOT tune and not what the AP is trying to achieve. I know I didn't have the kind of throttle response I get from the AP.

-DynoComp as in the one in Scottsdale?
-What the heck are you running to get 293whp/303 trq????
-If you are indeed talking about DynoComp here in Scottsdale, will you please run it on the dyno over there for us with the AP tune? It reads pretty conservatively so I'd love to see what it says. They are a Cobb dealer, so I wonder if they'll start using that to tune R56's instead of EvoTech

A buddy of mine who's got a tuned STI was asking about the RMW tune and whether it was safe. He didn't know who Jan was and I assured him it was one of the safest tunes for MINIs out there. He asked because he's had super-aggressive tunes like monkeyjunk's that would bust engine parts. I know this thread is about the Alta / Cobb tune so I won't go too much into why I feel good about tuners like Jan who take reliability into account. I'm sure Alta / Cobb is the same way.
Thumper, yes the one in Scottsdale. They really leaned out the A/F mix and I was getting readings of 22-25 lbs boost. With tune the car blew a valve cover seal and the timing regulator seal. Also may have burned a hole in the Alta DP, (may have been poor design in version one of the DP). I was also getting 35+ mpg with the a/f mix. MINI was horrified when they got it in the shop. Wanted to flash the tune out ASAP. I will dyno at Dynocomp as soon as Jeff and I get a tune we feel is ready.
You really got 293/303????

Ps...since you're close, would love to go for a ride/drive and see what the AP tune feels like

Thumper, any time you want to go for a spin I'm game. I'm retired so MINI is now my hobby.
Rich supervised, while Ken tuned. I'll post the dyne charts a soon as I find them in the glove box and scan them in.

I've been impressed with the level of care Alta has now. I just last week had a conversation w Jeff about gas mileage and A/F mixtures that showed that Alta's #1 concern was safety, w customer care a close second. It's great to see because when my Phase 1 (aka prototype thin walled pos) DP broke and had a big hole it it at the lower support Alta's reply at the time was that it was out of warranty (stupid me buying a part whose warranty is shorter than the original on the car) and the best they could do was sell me a phase 2 pipe (the good one) for cost. Since the deal w Cobb Alta seems to be alive again and w a new purpose. It's great to see.

The tune he's talking about wasn't an ALTA tune. It was a DynoComp custom tune. The ALTA tune is up to 20 PSI for a non JCW.
Dyno day anybody??
I'd really like to do a comparison. Where can wevrent a good road force dyneo for the day ? DynoComp is expensive per hr. I have not been to myers Mini, but have heard good things.
Goodspeed Racing has an AWESOME dyno. It's a Maha dyno, which are very expensive and pretty much the standard in Europe. It's also the brand of dyno most of the European OEM's use at their test facilities.
It has the ability to calculate and plot drivetrain loss for each individual vehicle on the dyno. So it gives you wheel hp, as well as an accurate portrayal of brake horsepower. People always think drivetrain loss is some sort of constant % for a vehicle, but it varies by RPM...increases as RPM increases. The Maha shows you this. There also is no ability to skew the dyno results on a Maha, as you cannot adjust correction factors and such....it just uses standard SAE correction, and you cannot adjust it any further.
It's about 4 doors down from DynoComp on Raintree, and was started by an ex-employee of DynoComp. (And they are slowly blowing DynoComp out of the water...) I don't recall what their pricing was like, but the owner is a really nice guy. There are a couple others in town, but I'm not too familiar with them. We can get some of the DMC members involved (the local MINI club), and sure we can get a good group rate anywhere we go. But my vote is Goodspeed.

Mynes? They aren't in Phoenix anymore.

Even if they were here, I would not take my MINI to their shop for a dyno run with RMW stickers on it
Oh oops sorry for the mix up. That tune sounds like slow suicide.
