F60 Cabin Filter Replacement
Cabin Filter Replacement
I'm not sure if anyone here has attempted to replace their cabin filters on their F60 but holly hell what a PITA!
It took me 30 minutes of back breaking effort to shoehorn the new ones in. The design of this vehicle continues to baffle me... It's not like anyone ever needs to replace a filter right?! (SARCASM). They put the filter way back tucked away where it's virtually impossible to get to. Then when you finally twist your body down into the passenger footwell to get to it you find a tiny opening barely wide enough to get one of the stacked filters through... I had to use pliars to rip the old ones out... once out getting the new ones in is even worst. There are 2 filters stacked vertically on top of each other. The bottom one goes in first but it doesn't sit low enough to leave enough clearance for the top one to fit through the openning so somehow you either have to compress the lower one to get the top in or you have to compress the top... or both.. all with not enough room to really get it in even if you didn't have to compress one... ALL while the little platic compartment door won't stay open on it's own.... it's the WORST design i've seen - and I've changed a lot of cabin filters. Unreal...
While I'm at it... the idiot trunk opened while I was driving again this week. I was leaning forard to check for cars approaching at a busy intersection and I guess I must have brushed the key fob in my pocket and the trunk opens... huge line of traffic behind me. Because there is no way of closing it from within the car I had to get out embarrased to close it. Why would they design this thing to allow the keyfob to operate the trunk from inside the car while the car is running?!?! then not have a way of closing it?! Idiot design again.
Sorry for the rant but BMW should have their crap together by now no?

I have not had mine open while driving but you should be able to close the power tailgate with the switch on the driver's door. On my 2017 I have to press the button and hold it while it closes. To open I just pull the switch but don't have to hold it.
Replacing the cabin filter was truly a PITA. However, I found that if you remove a plastic panel under the glove box, the filters come out and go back in much easier. The panel is held up with 2 screws (T15) towards the front of the under-panel, snap in plastic retainers along the sides and panel insertion opening in the back. There is a small speaker wire that you should disconnect to be able to drop the panel. Once out, the process isn't too bad.
Yep we posted here about it before the newTIS site crapped out. Links to aftermarket and OEM filters, I run the hengst carbon filters/blue filters and Mann in the past. I prefer the car carbon infused or the blue.
