Windshield replacement

I have a nice crack in my windshield, and the dealer said that I need to have the dealer do it because they have to aim the sensors and stuff. Is that right or are they trying to make a sale? I've always had safe-lite replace my glass.

Does anyone have any insight or experience?

It doesn't have to be a dealer but you have to go to an auto glass repair shop that has the knowledge and tools to align the sensors. If you look from the front of your car there is a small optical sensor behind the review mirror. That needs to be adjusted / calibrated after replacing glass.

Thanks. I was assuming that safe-lite does that. I can't image why aftermarket glass would be very different that OEM glass

Funny, my dealer didn't want anything to do with my cracked windshield. Safelite did it twice and that was both ways, me bringing it to their shop and the mobile fix, complete windshield replacements, OEM glass.

I trust them more than the dealer cause that's all they deal with.

It isn't OEM or aftermarket glass, it is the small imperfections during manufacturing that changes the optics when light passes through the glass. To the naked eye it isn't a big issues. However, for a sensor it is like putting on the wrong prescription glasses. That is why newer vehicles with sensor in the front need to be calibrated each time the windshield is changed.
