F60 HOW PRACTICAL IS THE HYBRID for a long trip
About to pull the trigger on my first Hybrid. A 2018 MINI Cooper Countryman S E ALL4.
I see the benefit to short distance commuting and all things MINI but am concerned after watching several "Jaded Reviewer" (Non never touched a MINI of any kind before) who obviously never had a HYBRID experience before, driving a MINI.
So... after all of that... I started getting the idea that a on the road "Interstate Style" trip or long commute might be not a practical fit (for me). The sudden awareness of a 9.5 Gallon Gasoline tank and 12 mile range on electric, has shaken my enthusiasm. On The Combo mode how long does the Electric last... 12 miles...? Is the Vehicle then reduced to a Cooper at only 134 hp for the duration of the 480 mile trip? Or, is the full 221 hp available for longer?
I will stop whining now, anyone with thoughts on this will be appreciated.

I have a 2018 CM SE, and absolutely love it. I drive a lot for work and the only negative is having to fill up the gas tank more often due to smaller capacity. The OBC will never let the battery deplete completely so you will always have at least 10% for quick acceleration or AWD to kick in as needed. Plus, if you use the on board nav, the OBC will automatically charge the battery on the highway (this can also be done manually) so you can drive the last mile or two completely on electric. The gas mileage does drop off on long trips with multiple gas fill ups but I have never been close to the rated 27mpg on gas only, I’m always well above 30, but this of course depends on driving style. Hope this helps, happy to answer any other questions!
Point Well Taken... Obviously at highway speeds it doesn't matter. Perhaps as the other reply notes more frequent Fuel (Gasoline) on a long trip seems to be the only drawback.

Thank You for an actual "OWNER DRIVER" real world view. This does give me a comfort level and answers the long trip practically question for me..."Stop" more often for fuel.(Stopping more often, being a Land Rover Driver, this has become normal, My LR3 is a "GAS HOG" I love it, but...). Becoming use to the driving style and settings to use, when to use them, for the most pleasurable driving experience... (and results).
This is not my first MINI...
1960 MINI Cooper S 948cc Restored
2003 MINi Cooper -- my Road Warrior -- 267,800 miles... Traded in on my first Land Rover
Note: No I am not replacing my LR3 with the MINI. My Land Rover is heading to the shop to be restored and adding Over-landing equipment, after 7 years of ownership. She has become my latest project.
I am back in the MINI World.
