Not sure which way I want this to go.
Most of me wants it fixed. I love this car. Everything about it. Wouldn't change a single thing/feature. And finding this exact config, even being open to several other exterior colors, would be like finding a unicorn.
And I don't have the time to wait for a special order because I need a car to drive.
The downside is... the carfax. There would be no good way to explain a new engine come time to sell. And if anything about "flood" is mentioned...yeah... not good.
The dealer said the engine is completely seized and there was a little water that made its way to the passenger side front. I'm sure from the wakes of water that were created from passing traffic while I sat there.
They will need to pull the carpet up there because there are some modules under there they will need to check. I don't foresee anything major. I had looked there while waiting for the tow truck after I was pulled to the parking lot and I didn't even think any water made it in.
Anyway, currently waiting for my insurance to go there and check it out and decide what they want to do.
There's no other physical damage other than the engine. So I can't see the cost of the engine and a day or two of labor (plus checking those modules) being enough to total a brand new $44k car.

Dang...sorry to hear man. Talk about bad luck! Hope insurance makes it an easier decision for you...not sure what I would have done myself. Let us know what you decided to do- either way, best of luck Dennis.
Overall, I'm happy to report that my MINI is going to make it! A check is being cut today and my local dealership will be ordering a new engine.
Expecting to be back motoring in a couple weeks, with most of the time being just waiting on the new engine to arrive.
They will also be cleaning the carpet, lubing the seat rails, cleaning the brakes, intercooler, alternator, starter, doing a brake flush, transmission service, and oil change.... well it's a new engine... I'd hope that includes new oil!
The only downside is whatever issues may arise with resale down the road. But I guess it is what it is. I've been scouring the local (and not local) dealership inventories and its basically impossible to find a Countryman (or any MINI really) that is as optioned out as mine.
Even options I probably wouldn't have ordered if going that route originally, like the HUD, I ended up REALLY liking. And again... $500 for the lounge leather is a total no-brainer IMO yet it seems so rare. I mean, this thing even came with the rear windows tinted from the factory.
So overall, I'm really glad it will be coming back home. Plus I'm not losing out on the mods I've already done. Another bonus.
Now if I could just get a real answer on how the heck it flooded so easily! I'll be talking with the service guys when I pick it up.
Picked the car up this week. All is good! Runs like a top. Only issue is it looks like the tow company (I'm assuming) damaged the clear bra on each side of the hood, so the hood portion needs to be replaced.
Unfortunately I can't claim that under the same insurance claim so it will be out of pocket.
And speaking of the tow company, those a-holes charged both ME and the DEALERSHIP. They took both payments over the phone withing minutes of each other. I found this out when I went to pick up the car and the dealership was charging me for the tow.
So now my bank is fighting that charge for me. Did i mention that the tow to the yard that night, plus the tow to the dealership the next morning was $800!?! So yeah... they took that payment twice. Crooks.
So maybe next weekend I'll get the clear bra replaced. But this weekend... i have driving lights sitting in my garage waiting to be installed.
And going back to three weeks ago, the car flooded in a crazy storm that whipped through. Well if anyone has been watching the news this morning, you'll see that Imelda dumped massive amounts of rain on us yesterday.
Here's the view outside my front door...
This was my son's kinder class trying to get to the cafeteria lunch room. Their hallways are outside.
The teachers used benches to keep their feet dry. This also made the national news this morning.
And I-45 near downtown Houston.
I'm starting to think I should have kept the Jeep!!!
It's been a few weeks now since I got the car back and she's running like a top. The little bit of musty smell from sitting unused for a couple weeks in the wet weather is long gone and she smells like fresh leather and new car again.
It's like nothing ever happened.
Got the hood re-wrapped in Xpel due to the damaged spots.
And the black-out continues with new badges.
Came out of dinner last night to my first surprise Rule #1...
good to hear your baby is getting back to normal and the blackout continues! thx for sharing pics of the blackout badges.. my Clyde should be nearly blacked out from the get go and was wondering how those badges looked; got the beltline vinyl tape all ready to go on once he finally makes it here

Cool, post pics of that when you do it. Out of all of it, that's the one thing I'm not sure I want to bother with. And the door handles just because of the work involved and how much use they get with a family of 4... the chrome isn't nearly susceptible to scratches as black paint. lol
But ya, i might eventually do the beltline.

i'll do a before and after. as for doors, i opted for the black glossy doors since i had heard how much fun they are to install after the fact and i'm also very car illterate in regards to mods/taking apart. computers = expert, cars = noob.
Got striped!
Now to see if a body shop can custom mix a paint that matches the 3M Gloss Lemon Sting vinyl to do the mirrors.
They are too round to wrap in one piece.
I mentioned above that our mirrors are too round to wrap in one piece.
So I brought a swatch of the 3M Gloss Lemon Sting vinyl to my favorite body shop this morning to see if they could color match.
They said they could get really close. They are working on some color draws as I write this and I'll check them out tomorrow.
As long as it's close, I'll be good. The yellow in my stripes is so thin that it pretty much just looks yellow anyway. But the mirrors, if anything like the pic below, should really pop.
Did you replace the grill yourself? Did you have to remove the bumper?
I've taken the grill on and off many times. Just some torx screws around the top and then you can release the clips along the bottom and pull towards you. Takes just a few minutes.
