aFe dry filter doesn't allow stock air box to close properly
I suspected the dealer hasn't changed out the air filter even though I am at 14k miles. I decided to just get a new aftermarket filter and went with the aFe 31-10256 for my JCW.
The dealer definitely didn't change the stock filter yet: aFe on the left, stock on the right.
I went to install the new aFe filter and the air box will not go all the way down. There's about a 3-4mm gap as you can see here:
Normally, there's no gap, but clearly there is one now.
Anyone else run into this? It doesn't seem like a good design if it doesn't fit right.
I could put a nut or stack washers to act as a spacer, but that's pretty Mickey Mouse if you ask me. Oh well. I was hoping for a good high flow air filter that didn't have oil like K&N to possibly mess with the MAF. This one's going back and I'm going to try other options.
