new to roof racks but I want to get some kind of cross bar and straps I can use to carry things like wood planks, stone slabs for table tops (smaller ones like 4 feet by two feet) skis and snowboards. Anyone know what I would need for my F60? I have no idea what to even look for in terms of fitment.

Depends on the load, aesthetics and whether you wanna go with one company's system of products. Biggest brands for crossbars and attachable accessories are OEM from MINI, Thule, Yakima, Allen plus any number of others.
