Rear seat fold down from cargo area

One thing that has been bothering me since before I ordered my CM, there apparently is no way to fold down or even raise the rear seat backs from the cargo area. You have to open a rear side door and pull on these dopey straps to unlock the seat backs and raise or lower them.

Okay, I knew this is the way it works but I recently saw a youtube video where they were talking about the 2017 BMW X1, our CM's sibling. The X1 has buttons in the cargo area you can push to individually lower the seat backs, including the center 20% seat. I don't know if you can raise them. That seems very convenient.

They could have scrapped those findmate things and given us something really useful like these buttons.

Exactly what I'm talking about!! It's like they stripped the CM of some useful X1 utility, but then felt bad, and gave us a Findmate consolation prize.

You might be happy to know that not every X1 gets the lowering button though (doesn't raise them back up BTW). Needs a special storage(?) package to get it. Check out Average Jeff's YouTube rant about that.

I was just noticing that this past weekend. And not only do you have to walk around and lower from the side doors but you have to lower all 3 sections individually!

X1 Pros:
Rear-seat folding switches
Real HUD
JCW-tuned engine as standard.
Better key fob
Available nicer steering wheel (M-sport trim)
Heated steering wheel
Probably able to find discounted.

2016/2017 X1s have a piece of crap infotainment system (very outdated). Only 2018-onwards matches Countryman's (2018's).

COUNTRYMAN Pros:
Manual transmission available
Lighter
More fun to drive
Much more customizable
A better-positioned Infotainment screen.
Usually at least $4000 cheaper MSRP
A bit shorter (less cargo volume) [+/-?]

I won't speak to brand-snobbery. That's either a pro- or a con-.

Probably the X1 is better value for the money, especially when discounted off MSRP.

Did I miss anything?

Thoughts?

X1 might be better value for the money upfront, but the MINI will hold its value better in the long run.
