I am in need of and oil change and want to do the job myself. Is there anyone in the area (souther NH, norther MA) who has done this and has a reset tool? I will eventually be getting the reset tool myself but until I do I would appreciate some help from a fellow Mini owner.

I haven't done it yet, but wouldn't mind shoulder surfing your effort, if you don't mind. I'm in the Plaistow area. I read one of the how-tos but don't recall anything about having to do a reset. PM or email me at mcs22004@yahoo.com if you so desire.

I read the RSpeed how-to. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...amp;file=index
It doesn't seem to mention the reset. The one at Bridger http://www.tech-esq.com/mini/MINIOilChange.htm is MCS-specific but doesn't mention the reset either.

Do you have an oil change kit?

The reset tool is to reset the mileage to next oil change. mcs22004, I'll drop you a line if I either find someone to help out or I buy the reset tool first. I may just go ahead and buy the tool so I can do my oil change next weekend.

gt6...where did you get info about the reset tool? I am aware of such a thing for older BMWs, but thought that one did not exist for the MINI. And besides, what exactly are you resetting? The oil change mileage indicator? The MINI doesn't have a "Perform Service" light like some other cars...so I'm not sure what exactly would be the point of a reset tool.

ps -- I'm in Northern MA, but prefer to have the dealer deal with the oil change. At least until the warranty is up.

Service Reset:

!)Push-hold Trip Button (TB)
2)Turn key to position 1
3)Continue to hold (TB), the number 15A will show to the teft of the milage
4)Release (TB) for 3 sec and then hold (TB) again
5)In about 5-8 sec RST will show in the left corner
6)Release and then hold again "15000" will show, press and release
7)Car is now reset to the 15,000 service - (has completed 10,000 mile service) and will count down from 15,000.

I have followed this procedure up to step 6 with 15000 showing but did not reset. I'm only at 2700 miles now but changed oil at 1250. Note: the 15A and RST are a little difficult to read because of Capital and Small letters.

Good luck

According to the manual, there is a mileage indicator when you first turn the key in the ignition, described on page 60 and 98. I have seen this also on my car. As soon as the key is turned, before the car is started, there is an indicator that shows mileage to service, in this case mileage til the oil change is required. I bought my Mini used, and I am now in need of an oil change. I would like to use the dealer to perform this service under warranty but my closest dealer is about 60 miles away and does not have weekend hours. It just doesn't make sense for me to take time off work for an oil change.

This procedure will work for models between 02-06

Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Service and Repair

Resetting the Service Interval Indicator

The SII can be reset using the trip odometer reset button in the instrument cluster:

-- The ignition key must be in the "0" ("off") position
-- Press and hold the trip odometer reset button in the instrument cluster and turn the key to the "1" (accessory) position.
-- keep the button pressed for approx. 5 more seconds until the current SII status appears in the display: "oil service" or "Inspection". Release the button.
-- Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 seconds to change to the reset mode. The letters "RST" appear. While the display is flashing, press the button briefly to reset the service interval. The Interval will be displayed for 5 seconds.
-- Release the button and turn ignition off.

sometimes this can take more than one try.

Had my inspetion done recently and the service guys forgot to reset. Not really a problemm except the dealer is 4 hours away. The instuctions the service manager gave me over the phone weren't working so I looked here. Success!! Thanks again.
