2008 Guinness World Record Attempt (July 26, 2008)
#26
Okay, seems that I stated this tread last summer; however, information on this event remains hard to come by!
Per this tread, I’m directed to the C7M web site. I just checked that site and see nothing on the calendar for 8 June 2008. I checked the NAM calendar and nothing again. Then I checked the C7M calendar on NAM, and the only items/events I see are Birthdays. Nothing posted in C7M’s Forum either.
I read comments such as:
"We have the sportplex once again for [June 8th] 2008”
“will incorporate a MINI World Soccer Tournament”
“Vendors and Entertainment will be on hand”
“MINIUSA will join in to advertize and promote the event and we have the backing of the City Of Virginia Beach also”
So, have I just missed the boat on finding additional information or there is none?
Thanks

Here's a strange "official" video of the Thailand event.

I have been flying for well over twenty years and I can tell that no one can hover that still for that long, the video must have be shot from a crane or building not a Military Helicopter as they claim.

Dagnabbit... my company makes me choose my vacation for one year during December of the preceding year. I already took vacation time for the GWR event based on the June 8th date.
Not only does June 14 mean I have to try & fenagle my vacation time around, but it conflicts with the Miami leg of MTTS2, which occurs on the same weekend. (And me living in FL, it'd be a LOT easier to get to Miami than VA, maybe without having to rearrange my vacation time.)

I was just on the Guinness World Records site and don't find an official MINI parade record listed. I am part of a group trying to break the BMW record in Atlanta next month and figured I may see if anyone wanted to try and do something like this during MOTD 2009. But, as I said, I can't find the official record with Guinness.

It looks like the date will be changing once again, probably because the MTTS Miami date is the same weekend. I'm sure more info will come once the new date is selected. Here's the post from the HRMINI site.

I found the following on Seven Cites Web Site; however, nothing posted in there NAM Forum Site.
I wish I could change the Title to this Thread and remove the date, as it has changed at least twice; can anyone help with that?
On Saturday July 26, Seven Cities MINI and HRMINI along with support form neighboring clubs in North Carolina, DC and Pennsylvania will be hosting another attempt at the Guinness World Book Record of “most” number MINIs / Minis in a parade. Our official Guinness claim number is 208356. This year, to raise the bar so our fellow MINI enthusiast from across the pond can't take it from us, we are going for 500 cars!!!! Last June C7M, HRMINI, DC METRO and members for other surrounding clubs set the record at 273, which is an official Guinness World record. England attempted to take in back last August but missed by merely 3 cars. It is time to show some American pride and break our own world record and keep it forever in the USA. This year will be hosting a whole day event starting a 9 A.M. and going to Midnight. The event will be held in Lanexa VA at the Rockahock Campgrounds, (http://www.rockahock.com) Parade will start at 2 P.M. with the entire the day filled with:
- Vendors- Car shows- Clinics- Competitions- Rock and roll bands- Food- and Children Events.
We have a deal with the Ramada Inn at 6493 Richmond Road (757) 565-1111 in Williamsburg. It is the closest to Rockahock(14.6 mi). We have a special rates at $49 a night and will be held until June 26. So make your reservations now. Of course you could always camp at Rockahock or reserve a cabin!!!!!
More information will be coming soon. We will have a link on our web site for pre- registration soon. Hope to see you in July.

Well this latest change will probably do it for us. The Seven Cities group does not seem to be very well organized nor do they seem to understand the planning that people require. This is at least the 3rd date they have set (two that I know of were 6/8 & 6/15). Now they've moved it again. I've already had plans in place to attend for 6/15 (which I had to move to from 6/8). At this point, I'm not real confident that they will be able to stick to any date in any given year. I'm realistic enough to realize that they aren't going to move the date back to 6/15 just because I refuse to move my vacation yet again, but I can't be the only one who's planned for the trip just to have it move again. At this rate, being able to get enough MINIs to set the record at 500+ is going to get harder and harder for them.
So since GWR 500 seems to be a fluid target that I don't care to try and hit, Anyone know of any good events going on in the east on 6/15 other than MTTS? Suggestions for cool drives? I'm considering swinging around thru The Dragon, but will wait for reports from this years MOTD as to the level of LEO presence. Lots of bad reports coming out about the Dragon being shutdown.

For example a weekend gathering of crotch rockets will normally draw them out, but a midweek cruise on the Dragon and you may find yourself all alone on the Dragon.
I sometimes wonder if they (LEO's) are using the Internet postings of gatherings as a tool to determine if they will go there or not.

Well, this isn't from CNN, but here:
Longest line of Minis ever - Expatica
Also:
Mostly classic Minis, but there's a few MINIs in there too.
