Alternator only spins counter clockwise

I am back for some more advise in my weeks long effort to revive my R60. I have the engine out and have done some maintenance and repairs on it and while doing some other things I tested my pulleys and my AC compressor is seized which means a new one of those and a condenser. But also, my alternator - it only spins by hand in one direction, counter clockwise. However, I suspect it's supposed to spin freely in both directions like my cars of days gone by have done. Let alone the fact that the crank would be making it spin the other direction.

I thought I would check here to see if you guys have any thoughts. I'm not sure if the alternator is supposed to spin only one way and once electricty is going to it the unit "unlocks" a clutch or something to let it spin clockwise as it should be doing or if... yet again I'm off to RockAuto. Boy I wish they had a points program ha!

Yea, it should spin both ways freely.

Thanks! I've got a new one on hand that showed up today but waiting for the snow to stop for removal. Have a new AC compressor too. This has been a journey... Including, as of today, a stripped 8mm hex hole on the transmission fill plug. I had removed the axles so there is no transmission fluid in so this got very "interesting" very fast.
