Towing w/ a Countryman

Hi All

I'm considering getting rid of my truck due to substantial frame damage, but occasionally have need for a truck bed/trailer situation. My 2012 Countryman already has the wiring harness for towing and I know of the hitch you can get for it. I guess I'm concerned about the stress this might put on the transmission and if it'll significantly reduce the lifespan of it. I know the previous owner towed with this vehicle, and the clutch seems to be very sensitive in 1st gear when starting from a stop. I'm not sure if this is normal for this transmission or not though.

Any thoughts or experiences with towing? Thanks!

Given the history of the early Countryman vehicles and their clutches, I'm not sure i would want to put any additional stress on either the clutch or the car. There are a few members here who have done it though and if so, I'd keep the total towing weight under 1000 lbs.

I can't speak to the the early R60s, but I bi-annually tow a 4x8 enclosed u-haul with my 2016 to take kiddos to university 8 hours away.
- Ecohitch
- Curt 45090 6 inch riser ball mount
- Curt 59236 tail light converter box

Tows easily and I haven't noticed any ill effects to the clutch or drivetrain.
