Oil Pan drop

Good morning all. The design of the R60 N18 oil pan has the drain plug mounting boss about 1/2' or more above the bottom of the pan. Consequently, there is the long term potential to have about 1/2" of sludge sitting in the bottom of the pan. Does anyone here drop the oil pan on a regular basis to clean it out?

It would be interesting to know how much clearance there is between the oil pump pickup and the bottom of this pan considering the 1/2" of undrainable oil. Perhaps another reason some people like to pump the oil out which would get most of that which sits below the elevated drain.

I never did like that drain location... this post makes me want to go out and pull the pan right now!
