R60 Tires
Tires
Ok, so my phone is a pain in the ***. Quick question, long story. I got a set of winter tires for free. I know they wont fit, does anyone know the size spacer I need off the top of your head? They are 235-45.R.17's. I would include a photo, but the last time I did that my phone was being a ****. Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Yes, the 235/45/17 tires won’t fit but not so much because of fitment issues within the wheel wells (should be fine) but rather because the tires are likely too wide for the stock wheels. The standard fitment for our cars in size 17” is 205/55/17 on a 6.5” rim width. The 235 width tires would be happiest in a > 7” rim for optimum handling (more vertical sidewall) but you can probably fit them if you don’t mind a squibby handling feel because of the resultant muffin top. Free is free.
Then there’s the issue of the extra width and its effect on snow traction. The conventional wisdom is to go with a narrower section width to cut through snow and to concentrate more weight on the contact patch. A 235 width tire would be suboptimal.
