Media adapter apple iphone cable

I'm told that I have to buy one of these from miniUSA at $105 to be able to stream music from my iPhone Max and have control from my 2012 Mini Countryman's media system (song graphics, change tracks etc.). Is this correct? I see a lot of less expensive cables on the market that claim to do the same thing.

I found one on the amazon and it works great. I made sure I didn't get the cheapest one, nor the most expensive.

That’s good news! I picked an OEM one up 2 days ago and am dying to try it with my iPhone X. I’m vacationing and driving a different car right now, but will get a chance to try it next weekend. There’s lots of conflicting info out there about whether these work with the newer iPhones so anyone that posts their successful use here will be doing the Internet a favour.

My OEM cable which I just got last week definitely works with my Iphone X. The song title comes up when it starts to play and then the image changes to the album art until the next song begins to play.
Now if if can just it to display song title and artist when using the radio!

I don’t have NAV, but I do have the “Media Connect” option on my option sheet.

BMW part number 61122408012

The cable works great. I have full control over tracks, playlists, genres and podcasts in the iPhone music app, including track display. Furthermore, Spotify, TuneIn, SiriusXM app all display track info. I am well pleased! I have an iPhone X. I have included screenshots of the item from eBay. I bought it from eBay seller BMWpartsdirect.
