Need some opinions
Hey guys.I did some work to my 2011 Countryman All4 S. I enquired about flash-tuning my car, most of the people i spoke to recommended I upgrade my intercooler before doing anything with the map.I had a race chip ultimate on the car and it worked well, but i heard the re-flash was the better way to go.I found a tuner down here in Trinidad and i opted to use his service instead of shipping away my ECU.The local tuner guy suggested I put water/meth or the intercooler before he did his bench-flash.
Parts i have installed on the car:
-AEM ver2 water/meth kit
-2.5" Catless Downpipe
-Forge Blow-off valve (red spring)which replaced the stock recalculating valve that they say malfunctions over time
-Upgraded step-up front mount intercooler
-K&N typhoon air intake
-4 new NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs 1LZKBR7DB8DG
I changed the oil to Redline 5W50 synthetic, put a new oil filter and removed the race chip ultimate from the car.I had an oil leak from a vanos solenoid behind the engine,so I changed both vanos solenoids (front and back of the block).
I let the guy bench-flash the ECU,I paid him and he took out the ecu flashed it and said i got a 90-100hp gain.
Since that the car has been working like ****.I feel NO POWER INCREASE from when i had the chip and to be honest I have been only having problems. After putting on the tune I drove the car, every time I press the X the blow-off valve releases and its like a hiccup then the car accelerates and the valve opens and causes the car to move jerky. I thought maybe the blue spring which came with the blow-off was too weak to hold the boost so i changed it to the red spring, but It still won't accelerate clean. That same day I was test driving,I got the limp-mode error come up saying "loss of power".My tech-man hooked up his scanner and it was reading low pressure on the fuel system. The tuner said that its possible the HPFP is gone and most likely that is the problem and thats why the car isn't performing. He advised i change the HPFP. I bought a used HPFP because my car has low mileage and before the tune i wasn't getting any problems at all with it. I put in the used pump and tested the car and I got no codes, however the same **** was happening with the blow-off and no performance gains were felt whatsoever.
I called the guy again,I told him i feel something isn't right with the tune and this is messing up the car. Last night he came to see what was happening and while going for the drive i got limp mode and two error codes appeared. 348E Map thermostat activation:short circuit to positive and also 2BE9 Cylinder injection cutout:Pressure too low in high-pressure fuel system.
This is very frustrating. Now the tuner is still saying the car has issues hence the reason the car won't perform.I agree if the parts are bad, they need to be changed.I ordered a thermostat assembly, waiting on it to arrive.
I told the tuner to load back the stock map and then i will change whatever part is bad or malfunctioning, before the tune none of these problems were happening.I think its only fair to me to be sure that its not the new tune that is **** and causing all these problems.
Can anyone tell me what they think of this situation?

Wow that’s unfortunate and must be extremely frustrating for you! In fairness to the tuner, sometimes things happen coincidentally at the same time, or oftentimes the car maybe has an unknown issue or part that is nearing failure, and the tune can cause the issue to finally show itself, or the increase in stress can cause the weak part to fail.
On the other hand, he should at least be willing to help to determine if the tune is the problem or not. Do you have a way to monitor some of the cars parameters? Something like torque or dash command? You may want to try to see what’s going on while you are driving it. You should try to monitor and log things like boost, AFR, timing, fuel rail pressure, and so on. These can help you and your tuner to see what’s going on.
A flash back to the factory map is probably a good idea to try, if the tuner is willing. Is he using a tune like Manic or something similar, or is it a custom tune? Is there a chance that both HPFP’s are bad? It was a used one, correct?
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks.I know the tuner is not to blame if the parts fail.I just find it puzzling how the car never drove properly after the tune and its because of all these problems that never occurred before and i had no signs of parts failing other than the vanos solenoid which was leaking. I am very grateful that the tuner is willing to assist me by agreeing to reverse the flash on Monday in order to diagnose and sort out the issues. With respect to the fuel pump I changed,I really only bought the used pump because I felt that maybe mine wasn't the problem. I went ahead and ordered the thermostat because that is minor.New fuel pumps are damn expensive,i didn't want to change it unless i know for sure i have to. When we put back the stock map and sort out whats failing,I want to go on a dyno to read the figures, then put back the tune and see if i get the 90-100hp or anything close. I should buy a boost gauge and water temperature, but I will wait to see first what happens Monday.I am almost ready to push the car in the sea, fedup spending money and no results
I PM’d you, but do want to put out there that the HPFP should still be covered by the warranty extension they had to offer for them. It extended out to 10 yes or 120K miles. If it is bad, get a new one on MINI’s dime! You may have to pay them for the diagnostic though, unfortunately. Good luck and keep us posted
