R60 N18 tuning questions.
N18 tuning questions.
I have a few questions about tunes. Please excuse my references to GM EFI systems, that's where my knowledge foundation is based.
Background: I had a 3800 Supercharged car whose MPG actually increased (27 to about 31 highway) after some induction mods and tune and substantial HP and Tq increase (opened up baffles and restrictions in airbox, smaller pulley, headers and downpipe and a tune to match.) I think it could just breath easier and was restricted from the factory.
After reading about R18 best bang for your buck mods, it appears a tune goes a long way. I understand it varies between individual vendor tunes.
Question time,
1 - Are the generic plug and play tunes for max power or is it just more accurate and finely adjusted?
2 - Can it be tuned ideally for 93oct (10%eth) instead of 89 minimum? (89 is not readily available near me, I've been using 91oct rec fuel [non ethanol] when I can but it can be pricey)
3 - What is the relation of a generic plug and play tune to the sport mode function? Are the both modes juiced or is the regular now like sport and sport juiced to max output?
4 - Finally, While I would like to pep this R60 up some, how the the tune affects fuel mileage will muddies the water if i'll mess with it. It will still get used as a commuter. What is the general consensus of MPG changes with a tune, will it be more like how my 3800 S/C was affected?
I'm still really new to auto computer tech after like 2005ish, I'm interested learning. Any guidance would be welcomed. Thanks!!

Contact MarioKart on the forum. Tuning is great on the N18. I have a Manic stage 2 and it completely transformed the car. No loss in mileage unless I am driving very very hard, Still see right around 30mpg on the daily with stop and go traffic over a 20 mile commute. Highway only drives will see close to 33mpg depending on speed I'm driving. MPG has a lot to do with your right foot :-)
