The video brought up a good point I didn't think about: If you have HUD and you're using Apple Maps via CarPlay, you won't see any instructions on the HUD. It makes perfect sense, but I hadn't thought about it before - it's a huge benefit I love about my HUD.

Apple revealed during the annual Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference that iOS 10 finally lets CarPlay communicate with a vehicle's internal communications bus. This means iOS will soon let Apple Maps display turn-by-turn directions on your car's LCD gauge cluster and head-up display (HUD).

It would still be up to the manufacturer (MINI/BMW) to implement this and given their track record, I'm not holding my breath.

So is this going to be a software update for existing 2017 Countryman vehicles? Or only on ones built after July 2017?
