R60 Misc R60 questions for forum
Hi,
There may be other forum locations that have some of these answers, but I'll stick them all here for now.
a) My '13 Countryman S All4 with 38K miles has sat radio...and it still works. I'm disinclined to call Sirius and say "I've got free radio, should I pay you something?" so I'll just see how long it lasts...but the car has been unsold for at least 5 months and no "disconnect" from Sirius yet. So, do 2013 R60's have "lifetime subscriptions"?
b) The R60 came with "Anti-Theft" feature...but not the alarm. Aren't those 2 things the same?
c) I seem to have the prep for an alarm ... LED in OBC, door sensors, etc. I guess I don't have an alarm ... it doesn't chirp when I lock. But can I add the "alarm retrofit" from MINI? It seems so, but I'd need to program it myself - or get MINI to do it for more $$$. What's the best place to get it? $500 from MINI or $350 or so for ECS?
d) I have the ability to upgrade the firmware. But will this "break" my "free" Sat radio?
e) Whereas I can upgrade the firmware, is there a way to update the maps in the Nav? Or does the nav connect "over the air" to an update service from BMW? How do I tell how new the map data are?
f) My Clubbie had chrome interior accents for the shifter, AC/heat ports, etc. This Countryman seems to have Piano Blank rings. In the dark of night, it's hard to locate the vents as they're black on black. can I get chrome accents from Mini? Can I install them myself? Will the chrome make the heat/AC ports look like "mouse ears" around the larger circle of the Nav?
g) This NAV works fine with the stalk (just like in the Clubbie) but the 2014 and newer navs have an LED ring around the edge and have a larger BMW IDrive touch input...plus I kinda like the maps better. Can there (now or in development) be a way to upgrade to the new generation? BTW, the '08 R55 Nav is way worse than the '13 R60!
So, that's probably my larger question list. Sorry if these items are covered elsewhere...I'll look more for them deeper in the forums.
Cheers & Thanks,

If you swapped out the radio, you would lose your satellite service.
Mine too stuck around from the previous owner. Upgrading the speakers made a huge difference in the countryman.
I do wonder if they bought the lifetime service. (It's usually a lot cheaper than paying for Sirius year after year)
