Tire Choices R60 ALL4

I searched the forum looking for threads with a similar question, but could not find one so I wanted to throw this out there. We need to replace the runflats and i want a good all season tire with the right performance rating. After driving in an R60 without the runflat tires I am convinced that the ride quality trade is worth the risk of having to call for help with a flat. We have an S ALL4 with the sport suspension and 18" wheels. Any experience with a similar situation? Thanks...

Matt

p.s. I have looked at the Tire Rack and understand my choices. I am looking for real world experience with someone that has done this swap. Thanks!

Isn't this thread basically identical to what you are asking? If you look thru the Countryman Wheels, Tires & Brakes section there are a number of threads discussing the switch over to non RF tires...

I am interested in this conversation as well. We are brand new to Mini with the purchase of a countryman all4 on Tuesday. We live in Alaska and will be buying designated rims and tires for winter. I am pretty certain we will be going with non run flats as we are seldom further than 20 miles from home. We will have 4 spares in the garage from the summer set...just need to call home for the delivery

Considering Blizzaks or Michelin x-ice...It is a huge investment to be wrong...especially with $400 in shipping from tire rack. However, the package will not cost any more than the local dealer and I get a better selection. Most of the local dealers have to order them anyway.

i have an 03/2012 all4 with sport suspension and 18 inch wheels

i replaced the oem 225/45R18 rfs with michelin pilot super sport summer tires sized 225/50R18, 1 inch od larger than the stock tires at 26.9 inches ... these give me more sidewall to protect the wheels and the larger tires correct the speedometer error ... my speedo reads spot on now

for winter, i bought mini oem 16 inch alloy wheels (as used in europe) from ecstuning.com and bought TPMS sensors and winter tires from tirerack.com

the tires are dunlop grandtrek sj6 studless ice and snow AT truck tires sized 205/70R16, at 27.3 inch od my speedo reads .9 mph lower than actual and i can live with that

the tires are fantastic in snow and on ice and are only $83 each from tirerack.com

they fit with no rubbing under any condition and are wearing well ... this is my 3rd winter and they show only 2/32 - 3/32 wear

http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2012-C...oys/ES2159816/

ecs also sell mini oem 16 inch steelies for the countryman for about 1/2 the price of the 16 inch alloys

Thanks Mikey but the thread you reference does not cover what I am looking for. But I also did not realize there was a separate Wheels, Tires & Brakes section so I will also post there. I was hoping to find someone that has replaced the run flats with a good year-round all season tire and can share the results with us. There are lots of threads that cover high perf tires (like the Michelin Pilot SS) and winter tires but I cannot find one that discusses a good all season replacement. BTW - I ran Blizzaks on 17 inch rims on this car for the past 3 winters and the tires were fantastic. Ride quality was much better, but of course handling suffered as one would expect with a winter tire.

I dont think you would go wrong with either the Blizzaks or the X-ice tires. I run the X-ice on my Countryman and i've run the Blizzaks on a Honda Civic and both were excellent winter tires.

The OP however is looking for all-season tires.
