Big Speedo

How long does it take to adjust to using the big center dash Spedo?

I find that its off 3 mph such that when going indicated 75 really traveling at 72 mph.

I also find the digital mph useless as I am so use to analog needle as a reference. With the an analog you can see a need for throttle input where as with the digital you see you have experienced a drop in speed.

So far, it's the only car I've ever driven by tach. 3000 RPM in 6th gear = 75 mph.

I dont recall too many analog speedo displays being absolutely accurate but to answer your question about adjusting to the large centre speedo, for most drivers i suspect only a few days at most. If its that big of a problem for you then maybe you could mount a GPS.

There is a similar thread here discussing this issue.

Most speedos are on the fast side, I am guessing that's by design.

I am at a disadvantage as it's my wife's car. I drive it only occasionally and the transition to the center mount speedo take some getting use to.

Typically the speedo is designed off by atleast 1 to 1.5 mph where the speedo indicates you are going faster than actual speed. This prevent the car manufacture from getting sued that someone was going faster than what thier speedo indicated. In talking to a state trooper friend, he mentioned that a quick way to calculate mph is to set your cruise control on the interstate to any speed you wish and with a stop watch time between the mile green markers. With a little math you can convert the time in seconds into miles per hour. Surprisingly, my speedo matches the Garmin mph which was off 1.5 mph.

If you travel 1 mile in 60 seconds, you are traveling 60 miles per hour. If you travel that mile in 55 seconds, what is your speed in MPH?

Helpful conversion:

Subject: Re: seconds to MPH conversion CHART

Speed is distance divided by time. If the distance is 1 mile and the time is T seconds, then the time in hours is T/3600, and the speed is

Speed = (1 mile)/(T/3600 hours)= 3600/T

That's pretty simple. The table looks like this:

Seconds MPH
