Lowered vs Bigger Tires

I've always lowered my cars.

My last car was a 2010 MK6 GTI that I had slammed with H&R Ultra Lows, and stretched and poked the tires. While I loved the look, driving it was so difficult, I had to have the fenders rolled and even then I had paint chips and dents.

I'm having a tough time figuring out what I want to do with my CM.

I've seen them lowered and although it looks good, it's in this mini-suv class of car that I'm not sure I want it to be low. I also enjoy not having to 3-wheel up driveways or worry about speed bumps.

So my next option was bigger tires, maybe even off-road tires to give it a meaner look.

What do you guys think and are there any of you out there who went the bigger tire/off-road look? Pics?

Thanks!

I first lowered my CM S with NM springs and had them flash them the ecu. Now I can tell u the car is faster and by lowering it the car corners quicker.

However I am now going to order the "COOPERCRAP" 2 inch lift spring spacers and reinstall the stock factory springs that I had saved and add the 2 inch lift spacers and add bigger tires. Check their web site out as they have pics of the car lifted with bigger tires.

This is after considering the change for several months and finally deciding to go ahead after relative drove my lowered CM into a curb and having the front bumper replaced!

I put on larger 45 tall tires (though on 19" rims) and it fills the wheel well nicely. I agree with you that slamming the suspension or putting really short sidewall tires is pointless when you're talking about Mini's version of a crossover.

great minds think alike I guess...my trade in for my mini was also a 2010 vw gti hahaha but ya when I decided to sell my stocks I originally went with a 20" aftermarket wheel and lowered my CM with Meagan coils...its just a 1.8 drop and it actually rode fine on stocks but when I switched to the larger size wheel and tire setup, it was just brutal the tires rubbed when I cornered hard or had more then just me in the car I really came to hate it... so I went back to a stock 18" size aftermarket wheel but went with a larger contact patch of a 235/40/18 and maaaaaan what a difference absolutely NO rubbing even with 5 people including myself in my CM cornering is awesome and now I can enjoy my CM performance once again!! I think its stance is perfect and I def. get a lot more compliments so anyways that's been my experience so far but good luck to you bro whatever you decide!

So I'm going to find out the hard way I guess....don't we all at one time or another.....I just ought a 2012 CMS4 that has 20's, feels sloppy as my two previous R53 were both lowered with Eibach springs....I ordered some H&R springs and they are supposed to installed tomorrow. I usually only have one other person in the car but have thought about what the effect maybe with four?? I'm not a hard driver, just like the quicker reaction and steering feel of a lowered car...i also ordered the Way rear sway bar.....
