Cockpit Surface Retrofit

I don't have my Countryman yet, but I have been thinking about something minor that I didn't add to my order.

The dash "stripes" that you can order as the "Piano Black Cockpit Surface".

They appear to be just molded pieces of plastic that likely stick on to the void area on the dash. Can anyone verify this, or even better, get some part numbers? I'd be interested in retrofitting these if it's a simple matter of getting the part.

It's not a big deal either way, but it looks like it brings the dash together a bit. Also, it's likely that the aftermarket will start producing some trip pieces like this in a year or two. I wonder how hard it would be to mold my own.......

I was under the impression that the entire plastic piece is different to make the different color lines, and this happens during build. In order to change to the black color line you would need to remove the current ones and add the black.

Specifically, if you don't order the color line (referred to as "Cockpit Surface") in the configurator, there literally is no plastic piece, it's just a recessed area on the soft dashboard material.

My question was not so much about a different color, but adding that "stripe" where there was none.

Regarding changing colors, if that piece is removable, it would be easy to wrap the trim in vinyl to achieve the desired look.

I see now. I didn't know they dash had a line across it. I thought it was just the center dash sides and around the door. Interesting, I did see on a preview for the new JCW Countryman that line is red. I don't mind the dark grey line, I really dislike the silver/grey around the vents and speedo. That will be getting some color to make it blend better. If only Mini offered a solution for those...

Exactly, so I need to get a hold of the part number for those stripes and I can only imagine they can be added.

For the vents and speedo, I imagine that stuff could be wrapped with vinyl. I don't know how hard they are to remove.

If you look at sewell parts catalog, there isn't a separate part number for that. It seems to be part of the dash. It is still possible to wrap without taking it off, just more tricky. I'm sure if you look in the hardtop cooper section, you'd find lots of examples of this
