The deal is that the paperwork from Mini is ambiguous and many buyers have been able to use the certificate on ordered cars.

Does BMW/Mini really want to tick off a raft of new Mini owners? I don't think so.

Well...I'm not a new owner; this is my second Mini.

And it sounds like r&r56 confirmed not being able to use the certificate with MiniUsa as well?

If you get it, count yourself lucky. If you don't, you did make the order prior to the deal.

Let me clarify - Mini should not want to leave a sour taste in the mouths of customers buying a new Mini.

We are scheduled to pick up our Countryman the coming Tuesday on the day of the TDTD. We ordered the car in March before the incentive was offered and we told the dealer to hold the car until the TDTD so we could apply the incentive to the new car. They just got the car on Monday - so it will be on their lot for 8 days. The dealer has told us they would give us the incentive and they have even sent us the vehicle order showing the discount was applied so we can bring payment for the car. So I guess different dealers are applying the TDTD incentive differently.

Could you cancel the order, get your deposit back, and then purchase it after the TDTD? Hey, the dealer wouldn't like it but he would still get the sale.

Thats such a bummer that some dealers are being weenies. Here is what my MA sent by email (southern ca)
Hi Tim, I don’t know when the car will arrive at the dealership. Once the car gets to the port and when they release the car to trucking, then I will know more to when the car will arrive at the dealership. If the car gets to the dealership on the 20th, you can come in and pick up your car the same day with the $750 credit. If the car did not arrive at the dealership on the 20th, you would need to come in anyway to get the $750 rebate. Please don’t forget to tell your dad too okay. Thanks
I too ordered before the event was known.

Looks like I don't have an issue with my dealer, but I would not back down. Mini offered you $750 off to come to the event, and you accepted. If they made a mistake and forgot to disclose that the $750 is not valid on cars already on order, that's their problem, not yours. Besides that, the Dealer Bulletin clearly shows they considered the issue beforehand and decided not to restrict cars already on order (proof of this is that they chose not to include this restriction in their marketing or on the certificate itself). Just refuse to take delivery on the car, and call Mini and tell them the dealer is refusing to accept your certificate. This is not complicated.

Just to be fair, there isn't anything in the marketing (that I've seen) about the $750 until the email certificate "thank you" is sent out.

Julzie, you know I did notice that and forgot about it. But it used to be there...that's how I originally heard about it. And when I signed up to attend, it was mentioned on line.

Well, the general manager emailed me yesterday to check up on my whole experience on buying and all. I responded today and said I was thrilled with the car and the staff treated me wonderfully but then went on at some length about the take down certificate. That some dealers making sure people are coming in to get it on their previously ordered cars and I was told I couldn't use it etc. And that the inconsistencies in how the take down certificate is being handled from dealer to dealer is upsetting and makes me doubt the truth in what I was told when I picked up my car.

So we'll see if that illicits some response on their part.

Will be interesting to see what happens, but now that the car is "sold" the dealer and Mini may be less motivated to assist you.

I ordered 1.5 months before the event and the dealer gave me no hassles with the certificate on delivery.

They actually applied the discount BEFORE taxes, which was a nice surprise. I ended up overpaying because of that and MINI will cut me a check back for the difference.

congrats to folks who were able get their discounts to work!

i wished i knew about the expiration date on the voucher… I found out last weekend at the event that the voucher is only valid until july 2nd and was told I will not be able to use that voucher for custom ordering L the MA said that they need to close the deal before july 2nd in order to use the voucher and they will not be able to do so until they see the car in their lot. Anyone know if there’s any way to join in on the 750 off voucher club for newly ordered minis?

Side question, the most my dealer can offer off msrp is 750 for a newly ordered mini. Does this sound pretty legit or have you guys found better deals else where?

The dealer's statement is untrue in my experience. My wife and I ordered two MINIs in March and took delivery in May. We received more than $750 off on both MINIs. $1,500 off on a Clubman and $2,500 off on a Countryman. You can do better than $750 off. Play hardball with the dealer or go to another dealer. You can use the internet to request quotes for the exact configuration you want from several dealers. You may have to drive a little bit if you do not have dealers close to you. But, if you pit one against the other you should get north of $1,000 off at least.

Good luck.

I don't see why not. I have seen many others indicate that they have received more than $750 when purchasing a new Hardtop.

TDTD report

I picked up my MCS which I ordered April 3 and had been sitting at the dealers garage since May 2. I waited out the extra 3 weeks for the extra $750 bucks.
I had to attend the dealer event on Saturday and then they applied the extra $750 when I picked it up.
I was happy they honored the $750 discount.
Now it's time to Motor!

Count me as another one in the "my dealer accepted the MTDTD certificate without any questions on my previously-ordered car" club. I placed my order in March, negotiated a discount of >$2K off MSRP, had the dealer price-match Sewell's March sale for the JCW front lip + mudflaps with free install, pre-negotiated my trade in value to a very reasonable figure, and waited...

Finally came time to pick it up last Friday, and I had a nice little $750 cherry on top, no questions asked. All in, I'm stoked- love the car, and love feeling like I got a great value in it.

Good luck to everyone else hoping to take delivery between now and July 2!

Scared me for a minute! The deadline is July 2. Mine is just in production now so I'm really hoping it makes it here in time.

Glad you got to use the discount.

Thanks for pointing that out- fixed it so as not to cause anymore alarm. Good luck with your delivery timing!

My car is at the dealer now. They are wavering on giving me the Take Down Test drive discount. I told them I will not accept delivery until they apply the $750 credit.

What makes me most upset is that I spoke to my MA and they said that I would qualify for the $750. The waiting game begins.

Do you have a local MINI club? My MA used my involvement with a local club to help push a decision (the right one).

I called AmEx and they will cancel the downpayment since the deal changed. I will be polite; but, I will not take delivery until they give me the discount.
