Service questions

I am seriously considering purchasing a new Countryman. Usually I do do buy new but may this time due to the lack of any used market and a very specific wants list.

The problem is that I am 120 miles from the nearest dealer. What has been the overall experience with disabling breakdowns? I anticipate getting routine service locally but worry about breakdowns that requi transport to a dealer. Any real world experience would be appreciated.

Thanks for a great forum. Tis is my first post, but I have already learned a lot here.

I suppose it's all a matter of perspective. From my readings (and personal experience), the Countryman seems to have a great track record. Sure, there are a few reports of minor issues, but honestly, what car doesn't? Modern machines are finely tuned, and for the most part, reliable. I say go with confidence.

For what it's worth, my closest authorized Mini dealer/service is 2,673 miles away. And i'm OK with that.

My nearest dealer is 160 miles away. I have not had any breakdowns in my 2005 MCS. Several warranty items (boot latch, oxygen sensor) have been covered but I had to drive the car in. I scheduled these trips while we also had other things to do in the area. If there is a breakdown during the 4 year- 50K warranty period, MINI Roadside Assistance will have the car transported to the nearest dealer. I believe they also give loaners or rental credit if your car is in the dealer for warranty repair - not sure about that since I have not had occasion to need this service.

My 05 is out of warranty but there are several good independent shops nearby that handle Mini/BMW service very well.

I am a little over 100 miles to my dealer. Just went in for first oil change at 1 year and 13,200 miles. They replaced the front and rear wipers and I paid 19.95 for a tire rotation. I have not had any problems with the car, but the engine is quieter with fresh oil.

Hit 2800 miles on my 2012 Countryman today.

Nearest dealer is 230 miles away. So far everything works perfectly. I just changed my oil today. Took about 30 min. once i had all the right tools & supplies together.

I'd say you would be fine but there is that 1 in 100,000 chance of a lemon, just like with any modern vehicle.
